Two consecutive shutouts?
Before I get to my main point, let me say that I respect every opponent. Do not construe my post as an assumption that we will absolutely positively beat G-W. Make no mistake; the real goal Saturday is to win the game. Having said that, I do see an opportunity to make a little history if we play our best game:
Skimming through the media guide, I noticed that the last time Tech achieved consecutive shutouts was 1963.
Sept 14 home vs Florida, 9-0.
Sept 21 BYE
Sept 28 home vs Clemson, 27-0.
Last time we achieved two shutouts in consecutive weeks was 1961.
Oct 28 @ Tulane, 35-0.
Nov 4 home vs Florida, 20-0.
Last time we did it consecutive weeks in the same month was 1956.
Nov 17 home game vs. Alabama, 27-0.
Nov 24 @ Florida, 28-0.
Coach Dodd and Tech had five shutouts that year (Duke, Tulane, and the Dawgs!) and held opponents to an average of 4.3 ppg!
(If you really love shutouts, check out the numbers for our 1917 Championship team!)
Let's see if we can reach back to the Dodd years with two shutouts in a row. This will require sound execution for 60 minutes on both sides of the ball.
