\"Chambers Delivers for Tech\"
Here is the third game to help us through these long months without football. I remember this night game well, especially when we blocked their punt (Wes' call "Go to the HOUSE, GO TO THE HOUSE www.gojackets.com/wav/97cu_punt.wav"), it really turned the momentum in our favor.
"Late 20 yard field goal beats #17 Clemson
Georgia Tech shocked #17 Clemson Saturday night before 45,000 at Grant Field as reserve placekicker Brad Chambers booted a 20 yard field goal with 1:54 remaining to give the Jackets a 23-20 win.
Tech is now 2-1 while Clemson fell to 2-2. The 3rd quater saw Tech go up 17-7 when Jason Bostic blocked Kevin Laird's attempted punt and Travares Tillman scooped it up and ran it in from 30 yards out.
The Tigers came right back, taking just 1:53 to march 73 yards in 6 plays, and ending with qb Nealon Greene finding Mal Lawyer alone in the end zone for a 30 yd scoring strike to pull within three at 17-14.
Tech picked up a 45 yd field goal in the 4th quater from Chambers to go ahead 20-14. Regular kicker Dave Frankes suffered a concussion in the 1st half and was unable to play. The 45 yarder was the longest of Chambers' career.
Clemson moved 65 yds in 8 plays before Raymond Priester scored from the 6 to pull even at 20-all, but the Tigers' Matt Padgett missed the extra point.
Tech took over on its 35 with 8:17 left to play but couldn't move and punted. The Tigers could do little and punted and Harvey Middleton returend it 21 yards to give Tech first down on Clemson's 44.
Hamilton immediately dropped back and hit Middleton with a 39 yarder and Tech had first and goal on the five. Charles Wiley carried but lost a yard, then gained three to give the Jackets a third and goal on the three. After Hamilton missed on a pass, Brad Chambers was good on a 20 yd field goal to give Tech a 23-20 lead."
