Gailey: Have had 2 good days of prep, one good day of practice...
We made more progress in the eyes of other people.. the guys believe in themselves... what we found out about ourselves is that we can go out and play.. but feels the fans have learned what they felt they already knew..
Talks about the frustration of the 1 point loss.. the good thing is that we played those guys pretty good.. cant dwell on that game.. we have a big game this week..
The Tigers have changed their personality since Georgia.. talks about how close the game was going into the 4th qtr against Ga... the Clemson offense has improved in offensive production and throwing the football... their receivers give them a great punch.. we will probably see the no huddle.. spread offense.. Whitehurst makes good decisions...
NO LIVE TELEVISION IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM..
Another television note.. Tech Vandy will be available Pay Per View... $29.95...
Caller: Cincinnati.. excellent game.. unfortunate that we lost.. two questions about PJ's running style.. against Auburn he looked hesitate going into the line.. but did not show that hesitation against FSU... looks like he puts his head down early...
Gailey: PJ is a hard runner.. tough runner... depends on lean.. has gotten a little better.. the plans were a little different for Aub as opposed to FSU.. have to tailor things for runners. and you dont know that until you can see him play.. hopefully our running game will improve.. as far as ducking the head.. sometimes a power runner will do that out of tendency..
Wes talks about the fact that we dont have that "homerun" runner.. a guy that will take it to the house..
Gailey.. not so sure about that with what PJ showed last week... but we are missing that 4.3 homerun speed...
PJ is like every other back.. you have to have some blocking...
People are going to see how great an effort this was when as the year progresses.. Jones puts 200+ yards up against good teams.
Caller: Tony in Smyrna.. kudos to the defense.. talks about the couple of busted plays on defense late in the second half..did we get too caught up in jawing back and forth with the FSU players..
Gailey: The play down the middle was just busted coverage.. the second.. the guy got lost in coverage.. there were a couple of instances that have already been addressed.. but in general, feels that we are much better in terms of "jawing" .. but talks to them about talking with our pads instead of our mouths.. but when you play FSU.. you are going to have some of that.. but all in all he felt that we did a good job focusing on the task at hand
Dan Burnett has been doing a great job.. talks about the hesistation on the first one.. he has been a positive, pleasant addition to the team..
Caller: Jim on a cell.. proud of the play of the team this year.. couple of things.. Bilbo? Would like to see him on the field .. QB Sneak? TE? what you think.. one question.. looks like FSU blitzed alot in the second half.. how do we counter going forward..
Gailey: Bilbo.. Damarious is still working to learn receiver.. people would be surprised at the strength of Ball.. if DBO went in for a sneak.. everyone would know it.. TE, he is not ready for that.. you have to be able to block.. when he gets ready.. we will get him on the field.. blitzing LB's... it affected us.. the way you beat that is to win the one on ones coming from the outside.. they did a good job of calling those..
Caller: Ben in Athens.. play calling outstanding.. Wes always does a great job.. dont really have a question.. just wanted to say thanks for a great job..
Gailey: The kids are playing hard.. thats something you can build on..
Wes: We are hearing more about the team playing hard.. but you said that in August..
Gailey: I had a feeling about this team.. we have guys that dont run their mouth much.. they just go out and play hard.. we dont have any prima donnas.. just kids that want to play
Caller: Chris in Adairsville.. quick comment.. have to admit.. was not looking forward to this season.. it looked bleak.. but have to take my hat off to you and your staff.. very impressed.. kudos to you and your staff.. question about Reggie..
Gailey: As you watch up play more and more.. we take what they give us.. you do need to stretch the defense at times... completions are so demoralizing to a defense.. mentions Phillip Rivers.. Reggie does have the arm strenght and ability.. but we stress to take what they give us and dont force the ball... appreciate his comments but the thanks goes to the kids.. they are the ones who have played their hearts out... they go out and they are worn out at the end of the game.. these guys know what their next 24 hours after a game will feel like..
Caller: Stephen in Duluth.. couple of quick comments.. did a good job last week.. was worried that the depth of FSU would get us... surprised why we went for 1 instead of 2
Gailey: Fatigue versus right calls.. we were tired in the second half.. it really came in when Rix started scrambling... the 2 pooint conversion.. had it been later in the game.. 8 minutes to go... you go for 2.. with 13 minutes to go.. you take every point you can get.. he thought they would get the ball 2-3 more times the remainder of the game.. talks about the possibility of them getting a TD.. them giving them the possibility of getting 2 FG's and winning the game 13-12..
Caller: Question about the no-huddle, how will it affect us..
Gailey: We dont huddle on defense anyway.. the no huddle will not affect us as much as it might from a logistics standpoint.. the bigger factor is .. can we get them off the field... and keep our offense on the field..the caller is right.. the faster pace will have an affect.. but that is not seen as the issue for us..
Caller: Michael on a cell phone.. great game. wanted to tough on the was 12 minutes a 3 possession game or was it a 2 possession.. questions our offensive play calling at that time..
Gailey: playcalling in the last series.. ran the ball.. then the QB draw.. (they called a middle blitz).. on 3rd and 13.. do you throw, after having been sacked 6 times, etc... his thought was .. we call the same play we scored a TD on hoping to get a crease.. if it doesnt work.. you make them drive the ball the lenght of the field..
Caller: Larry in Atlanta.. congrats to a great job.. Wes, any talk on the schedule next year? Also.. thoughts on Clemsons LB's
Wes.. the meeting last week in Greensboro.. dont know ...have another meeting scheduled for next month.. that is the meeting where the details will shake out.. but his guess is that we will get one of them next year.. either Miami or VT
Gailey talks about Clemsons LB.. Leak... and number 38.. that guys makes plays all over the place.. two DE's are good players as well.. teams have run up the middle on them with success are the teams that have spread them out.. foreced the DE's to spread the line a bit
Caller: Tom in Savannah.. were you surprised that Coach Bowden did not go for the field goal late in the game... and how is Ather doing
Gailey: Yes .. I was shocked.. there are two sides to the story.. Coach Bowden had a theory and ended up being right.. Ather is doing fine.. got hurt in the game a bit.. but came back and played.. he is doing a good job for us..
Caller: Proud of you and the players.. fantastic job... with the speed and talent FSU has.. did you think of running more misdirection plays..
Gailey: Their ends were playing up the field a lot more because they were concerned about Reggies ability.. if you try to trap or cross buck them.. they have so much speed that they would shut down plays like that.. you would not have the time to pull a guard to block without them shooting the gap left by that guard etc... we did run some slight misdirection.. trying to hit creases.. and had some success with that
Keys to the Game..
Clemsons pass defense numbers are good.. their inside backers and DE's are good.. we have to find a way to run the ball.. and be efficient in passing the ball.. they do a good job in pass defense..
Reggie has to be more consistent.. we need completions.. put it in the hads of Smith and Curry and let them run with the ball.. completions are demoralizing to a defense.. even if its only 4 yards...
We cannot give up big plays and long drives.. and we have to keep the ball on offense..
Tickets still remain for the Clemson game..
