Gailey did mention that although Eddy Parker,L.Newberry, and Reshaun Grant were injured that down the road they should be good ones for GT...I take it all 3 will be redshirted..

Great report and much appeciated Jacketguy and BW for the addendum.

Nice recap. Thanks.

CCG sounds like he is confident in his players. Good to hear.

Great post! Gailey sounds confident and that means so much for our young team. Thursday night isn't coming soon enough.

Tech 38 - BYU 24

Thank you, Jacketguy. I like the confidence. I expect that is the team mindset as well.

Thanks Jacketguy. Wasn't able to listen today. Really appreciate the info.

GO JACKETS!!!

you are more than welcome everyone... it was the best call in show I have listened to during the Gailey era.. I liked the tempo of it.. it was just different..

For those of you far away and those who live local but missed the show, and dont want to spend an hour listening to the replay of the show..
It may be that I am just ready for football.. but this seemed to be the best call in show Gailey and Wes have done to date.. if you have a spare hour, it would be worth a listen.

BYU and Tech..

Wes asks are they ready to play..

Gailey: You can sense it on the team.. on the staff.. everyone is ready.. you could feel the electricity last night at practice.. guys are tired of hitting each other.. ready to play the game

Wes: How did he come to the Ball decision

Gailey: You judge it by the way they practice. ..how they handle the offense.. he did a nice job in all of that.. he is not going to play perfect.. Montana didnt play perfect.. but he as proven to be pretty good and mature at this level.. Ball came in and prepared to take advantage of the opportunity, spent the summer watching film, etc... he attacked the position..he is one of these guys who makes it a mission to prove people wrong..

Wes: What are some other things we have worked hard on during summer practice

Gailey: We have worked really hard on special teams.. you can never simulate a game, but we have worked hard to put pressure on them to see how they compete under pressure.. got alot of new faces, but pleased with the progress, but you can never really simulate game conditions

BYU is hungry just like we are.. they are a big, mature, strong team..

Tony in Smyrna: With BYU returning all 11 starters on defense.. but with a new DC.. where did the prep work focus, what about the Burnetts range..

Gailey: Spent mostly looking at schemes from New Mexico..but also looked at the techniques used by some of the BYU players from last years team and tried to guess how they will used them..

Burnetts FG range is about 45 yards.. maybe 48.. it will depend on performance during pregame..

Altitude and stadium doesnt have nearly as much to do with victory as does execution and preparation

Wes: Talks about RB..

Gailey: PJ will start at tailback.. it will be hard for him to play every snap.. Chris Woods will play.. ACE will play... Dixon will start at FB.. we will be in 3 wide and multiple receiver sets sometimes.. will not require a fullback... Dixon is ready.. understands his role.. has embraced it and is playing hard at that position

Curry looks like the guy we thought he would look like.. has had a great camp... Fred has looked good as well.. Levon and Logan, Dunlap, Bilbo and Xavier will all see some time..

Dunlap has made some unbelievable catches on two minute drill...

Wes mentions that Dunlap will remind us alot of Kelly Campbell..

WES: Lets talk about the character of the team.. what has that trait become.. something has triggered it..

Gailey: The character of the team has been questioned... the guys want to prove we are fighters.. we all want that.. we are going to have to fight every second of every game to win.. we have very good leaders on both sides of the ball.. but the leadership has made it a big intangible team.. little stronger mentally than we were last year.. we have worked hard in the weight room this year.. (sounds like good team chemistry)

Wes: New DC at BYU.. talks about other coaches..

Gailey: Gary has been the OC and will be in charge of the offense.. but you wont see a drastic change in the way the offense works..

Wes and Gailey talk about BYU.. pass protection will be key on both sides of the ball.. talk about the fullback inserted into the BYU offense and how it will bring a different "flavor" in terms of running the ball, and possibly presenting a more ball control type offense.. they have a good set of wide receivers, but have lost both TE's from last year.. they try to stetch the zone with passing, hitting the seams.

Will on a cell phone: How is Reilly.. what happened with Leon Robinson

Gailey: Should be almost 100%.. even if he wasnt, didnt think it would matter.. Leon had alot of things going on in his life in summer semester.. didnt work out.. couldnt work out.. got out of shape.. hurt his wrist again.. set him back.. it has taken him to almost now to get back into shape.. almost no way he can play a full ball game.. and Andy game in playing well... Andy has done a good job..

Gailey and Wes talk about all the freshmen that will play on Thursday night.. Anoi, Scott, Wrotto, Hall, etc.. Gailey tells them everyday they have no clue what they are in for.. you hope guys that have played in bigger programs will adjust a little easier..

Wes: Are we athletically ahead of where we were a year ago?

Gailey: Somewhat.. but really excited about our freshmen class.. Parker, Grant, and Newberry will not even be on the field due to injury.. we see where we can be and where we are headed.. we have chance to be where we want to be in the next few years..

Tuminello will play this year.. he has come a mile during camp.. he will have to play.. Matt Rhodes will be a fine young player.. just hasnt matured yet.. just needs to hit the weight room.. good athlete.. just needs to work..

Kamichael Hall.. will play alot of football for a long time.. Anoi is cat quick, a good athlete.. there are going to be several guys who will get on the field early for us and play alot of plays on the flats.

Wes and Gailey talk about the talent level in the ACC.. FSU is still pretty good, everybody else has gotten better in the league.. committment of the ACC schools to improve facilities, etc ... taking a proactive role in terms of upgrading football in the league..

George in Sandy Springs: Good Luck.. when looking at hiring an assistant coach.. motivator, xand o's.. what

Gailey: You have to look at your needs.. thought we were a pretty young staff and thought we may need some guys who knew the system.. and had been in big games.. and he knew their personalities.. you cant have a non-recruiter.. lot of different factors that go into it.

JW in Marietta: Jermaine Hatch status

Gailey: 75-80% coming into camp.. never been 100% .. finally getting there.. may play some special teams.. may play at TB some.. it would be great... he just has to go "cut loose" and get involved..

Keys to the Game:
Pass protection for both teams..
for us.. special teams will be a key..they have a returning kicker.. can we protect the football.. we are going to move the football, but we cant throw picks or lay it on the ground.. on defense, we cant give up the big play...

Wes and Gailey discuss that we seem more focused.. Gailey says that we seem to be in a better frame of mind this year as opposed to last year.. and that things are going much easier because it is the second year..
