My wife teaches at North Forsyth High School, where she is the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) sponsor. Tonight Forsyth Co. held an FCA banquet/fundraiser with Chan Gailey as the invited keynote speaker.

My wife got me a pass into the pre-banquet meet/greet with Coach Gailey where I was able to get my photo taken with him, had him autograph a mini-GT helmet and I was able to speak with him for a few moments (before being asked, no, I didn't ask why TB didn't get playing time sooner or when he is going to beat UGA).

He gave an entertaining and spiritual address. He mentioned some of the influential people in his life; Jimmy Hightower, his HC at Americus, Charlie Bradshaw, who he coached with at Troy. Also, said Ken Hatfield had as much influence on his life as anyone. Talked about working with Dan Reeves, Bill Cowher, Dave Wanstedt. It was funny how he briefly mentioned his two years in Dallas and moved right into talking about Miami, it was his intent to get a laugh out of 'skirting over' his days with Jerry Jones, and the audience got the joke.

I can say that Chan Gailey is a very fine man, I had always heard this from others, but I now know it for myself. After hearing him speak earestly about his faith and his nearly 40 years of involvement with FCA, I can see where a parent would want their son to play for him.

Playing time for TB and beating UGA aside, not to mention that I was not found of his hiring, I continue to pull for Chan Gailey to be successful at GT, probably a little more now than I was a few hours ago.

Wins and losses notwithstanding, fans should be proud to have a man of Chan Gailey's character representing the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

...still, better beat UGA next year coach. ;)

Cool. I hope you didn't discuss your final exam grade.:ugh:

In all seriousness, I am glad to have a guy like CCG as our coach and when I hear things like these, I appreciate it even more.

I agree with your assessment of Chan, the Human Being. But if he'd just lose that nasty habit of losing 5 games a year and to ugag, we'd all feel much better.

Agree 100%. Gotta love the man himself, but his coaching is what's on trial with many people. I'm stradling the fence right now hoping not to slip and tear something.
