Chan Gailey to Chiefs as OC

This is according to Herman Edwards.

Talked to a friend on a flight from KC.

From a St. Louis Rams board:

Among the names that have been mentioned as possible candidates through league and team sources are Bill Callahan, Cam Cameron, Chan Gailey, Mike Mularkey and Ken Zampese. But Linehan says he has a lot of names in mind and is looking at this hire from all angles.

Good Lord. That is the worst selection since McDonalds had the BLT. Chan Gailey? I used to remember him on the Sports Radio in Dallas talking about chicken sheds.

And from a KC Chiefs board:

Herm met with Jim Fassel. It looks like the 4 up for the job are Fassel, Mike Shula, Chan Gailey, and Mike Price.

Price can at least keep the players in his sight at strip clubs.

If Pacman Jones were able to stay out of strip clubs long enough to satisfy Roger Goodell --and thus get himself reinstated-- then he and a guy like Mike Price would have an excellent player/coach relationship wouldn't they?

Cheifs are looking to go 8-8?

Wouldn't it be at least 9-7, with perhaps a win in the playoffs? Yeah, they probably are looking for that. Chan's teams as a HC or OC have a remarkable track record for making the playoffs.

His offense is definitely more suited to the NFL where there is virtually zero gap in talent between the teams. He's going (assuming he does get the Chief's gig) to inherit a good OL and strong running game and some good young recievers - just needs a QB to manage the game and a defense to keep it close.

just needs a QB to manage the game

And therein lies the problem...

Seriously though, good luck to the guy. He always seemed like a stand up guy while he coached here, and if anything, this may alleviate the AA's buyout on his contract.

You're right! We could not adapt to a more complex NFL offensive scheme! Wish him luck!

Does this have an effect on his buyout from the GTAA?

Best of luck to XCCG with the Chiefs

U got to be kidding!

I don't think that comment is too farfetched. Obviously there are the extremes, with teams like the Falcons and Dolphins on one end and the Patriots  on the other. In the middle 20 or so teams the talent gap probably isn't that huge, and that's where coaching comes into play.

Will Chan pick up any of his offensive players from GT? The Cheifs should have an early pick in every round. While I don't think we have any first round picks coming out. Does Chan move Cox or Choice into an early 3rd round choice?

Good luck to Chan! Obviously, he still wanted to work, as he didn't need to. I will go for the Chiefs and Chan.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict the best they do over the next few years is 9-7, and that when they do, they don't progress beyond the first round of playoffs.
