I expect those that disliked Gailey to flame him with every defeat this year. This group should have plenty of opportunities before this season is over. But it's funny to me to see so many who claimed to be sitting on the fence before the start of this season now bashing the coach after the first game.

Ignore Braine’s lack of leadership, ignore the lack of roster depth (chronic on the defensive line), ignore the fumbles and dropped passes, we lost to BYU and it’s all Gailey’s fault.

Tech fan's? I don't think so....

I still support Gailey and hope he does well so I hope you ain't talking 'bout me.

Nothing would make me happier if CG had a great year. But what about the game made you think he was or is a great coach? If you thought he was not a great coach (at least in the BYU game) would you be less of a fan to say so?

The loss was clearly not all CG's fault, but there was very little about the game plan that made me think this guy is a good coach. I don't expect to see us go undefeated this year, but that's because of roster depth not coaching inadequacies.

Where were the adjustments on the defensive side to the way our zone was getting murdered? Why was our offensive game plan completely devoid of passes up the middle until it was too late? Why were we having costly penalties to keep their drives going? Why weren't the kids fumbling getting chewed out on the side lines?

As you clearly are a "true" Tech fan and obvious football know-it-all, please explain to me why we should not be disappointed in the coaching for the BYU game.

And don't give me this crap about we don't have enough guys. CG knows we don't have enough guys. A simple offense is a coaching blunder precisely because we don't have enough guys, especially on defense.

I was on the support CG train until the BYU game, but am not so completely enamoured in my support to not see any issues with coaching.

You state "But it's funny to me to see so many who claimed to be sitting on the fence before the start of this season now bashing the coach after the first game." What's really funny is to see so many people so adherent to a coach, they exhibit blind, prejudiced, and unreasoning allegiance.

There were clearly coaching issues in the BYU game. If you can't see it, then you've got issues.

Jack_it,

Reading comprehension is not your strong suit (public education is going to be the downfall of us all) so let me try to sort it out for you.

[Never said he was a great coach. In fact I posted here after the UGA game and Semi-Bowl that he should be fired. But, hey no one ever listens to me So Braine and Gailey are here for 2003. A year where any head coach starts out with two strikes against him (1 past recruiting problems, 2 Braine)]

[Did our coaches make mistakes with game-time adjustments, or lack of? You bet. I said so in my post here the morning after the game, repeated below:]

My take on the BYU game

Here are my impressions, sans any bias from the media (haven't watched or read any "professional" analysis of our game yet).

Good:

Kids were fired-up, gave their best for the entire game; didn’t see any quitters.

Ball is clearly our best quarterback; he will only get better every game.

PJ Daniels looked very good running, second effort.

Special teams played well; got the one TD.

Good game plan from the coaches.

Bad:

We lost the time of possession battle big time; could not get a ground game established.

Our offensive line should have been able to push BYU’s defensive front around, didn’t.

Punting was poor, especially in the thin air. Higgins is a great kid but he didn't get the job done.

Secondary beaten too often on third and fourth down must throw situations (looked a lot like last year). In fairness, some of this is likely to do with the number of people we blitzed trying to get to the quarterback.

Blitzes didn’t get the job done; lost more key plays than we made.

Not pleased with Gailey’s play call late in the third (?) quarter, when we had the ball inside our five; was it second down he went deep? If ever we needed to get the running game going this was it.

Not happy with second half defensive adjustments. BYU had too many long, time consuming drives.

Two or three damaging fumbles; these kids need to carry a football with them all next week.

In sum, Gailey and this team have their work cut out for them, we are weak on the defensive front line and it will be a long season.

I saw nothing that would make me think we have the wrong kids playing or the wrong coaches coaching.]

Jack-it:

“As you clearly are a "true" Tech fan and obvious football know-it-all, please explain to me why we should not be disappointed in the coaching for the BYU game.”

[see above and my post history, insert large foot in your mouth.]

Jack_it:

“And don't give me this crap about we don't have enough guys. CG knows we don't have enough guys. A simple offense is a coaching blunder precisely because we don't have enough guys, especially on defense.”

[Where did that come from? Must be drug induced; don’t know what it ties too]

Jack_it:

"I was on the support CG train until the BYU game, but am not so completely enamored [spelling corrected] in my support to not see any issues with coaching."

“You state "But it's funny to me to see so many who claimed to be sitting on the fence before the start of this season now bashing the coach after the first game." What's really funny is to see so many people so adherent to a coach, they exhibit blind, prejudiced, and unreasoning allegiance.”

”There were clearly coaching issues in the BYU game. If you can't see it, then you've got issues.”
[See above and repeat insertion with remaining foot.]

Now then, I don’t know if Gailey will deserve to finish the season or get a huge bonus at year-end but I won’t take a position one way or the other after one game…

As an aside, and I don’t know Jack_it at all so this is not directed at him or her, but anyone who did not attend Tech or who is currently not buying season tickets, is not a Tech fan in my book and should shut the hell up….

Just my opinion.

Jack_it, one last comment. Don't bother to respond, you aren't worth another reply.

Nice, very mature. Ad hominem attacks are a great way to prove your point.

As a result, I'm switching my affiliation to whatever it is this old man is espousing.

I now realize that the ad hominem attacks (and incoherent references to past posts)--while technically libel--were necessary to awaken me to the error of my old ways. Obviously, someone so zealous that they would do such a thing must be firmly convinced of the merit of their position. In this situation--as with life in general--the person who shouts the loudest, has the biggest bomb, or who will go to the most seemingly outlandish extreme to make a point is usually right.

I want to thank the courageous soul who undertook this action under an anonymous internet sock (out of modesty, no doubt) for bypassing the tired, worn-out mechanisms of debate and persuasion. I want to thank this courageous soul for having the good sense and firm grounding in the principles of democracy to recognize that sometimes unprovoked ad hominem attacks are justified, if the cause is good enough.

But substantively, I just have to inquire. Compare these two statements:

71YellowJacket: "But it's funny to me to see so many who claimed to be sitting on the fence before the start of this season now bashing the coach after the first game. Non sequitur? Hypocritical? I think so. Perhaps someone should do some more reading and learning and less typing?

One more thing to the 71guy. Although I suspect we are not academic or intellectual equals, please respond, I enjoy debate (notice I didn't say good).

Um, 71, Georgia Tech is public education.

Public schools are presently handicapped by Mr. Bush's leave no moron behind program.

Don't get me started on what public education has been asked to do with few or no resources. You can insult Jack-it all you want without doing that.

How is it the locally (or is it loco?) poorly run district/county school system is now Mr. Bush's doing??

Sherrif Beestorm, Sorry if I have contributed to another "other" in the "football" section....

Mr Boosh has pushed through Congress the No Child Left Behind Act. Of course he got plenty of help from dems. Just more paper, more bureaucracy, more expense for school boards terrified of taxing enough to pay for what we actually need. I can blame Bush for this can't I? Pubs still blame Clinton (their favorite President) for everything and he's not even in office.

Yes, let's not wake up Beestorm. All this talk about girls operating Macs makes me think he wants to see my willy.

Bellyseries, I beg your pardon.

Mr. Bush's program is working fine and well.

The University of Georgia is a public institution.

They for sure have left no morons behind. They've graduated every one.

Why blame Mr. Bush it was Slick Willie Clinton who started the dumbing down of America. His reasoning was when they are dumb enough they will vote for any democrat that runs.

See there? He's the pubs' favorite president. Always gets a mention!

71...I graduated from Georgia Southern University and currently do not have season tickets. The reasons for this are:

1) I got a scholarship to play football there.
2) I have 5 and 2 year old boys and ain't fighting a losing battle traveling 2 1/2 hrs to sit 3 more and watch the game when they can play in there room while I watch the game downstairs.

Are you saying that makes me less of a fan than you? I grew up supporting Tech and took a lot of $#!t from UGAG fans that surrounded me my whole life living in the middle-Ga area. It would have been so easy cheering for the Dawgs. Trust me, I would have had much more to cheer about. But I stuck with Tech through all the down years and never even thought otherwise about it. And even when my Explorer gets keyed and my Tech flag is stolen off my house I STILL cheer for Tech and will even if we go 0-12, so don't give me that crap about "not attending and season tickets"!!

wtf.gif

techjacket,

Heavens no! You can cheer for Tech all you want, and glad to hear you are showing your true colors; wish you would break lose for a few tickets though.

But those that never went to Tech, don't buy Tech tickets have a lot of nerve coming on a Tech fan bulletin board and bashing the coaches and players!

No free shots for b**chers.

71 I agree with the bashing though...either support tech or shut the hell up!!!!!!!!!

we did use to have season tickets up until 98...that's when the first demon spawn arrived!!!!!

Techjacket,

Went through quite a dry spell myself from 79 thought 94 when my career bounced me around to places that have never heard of GT.

But since then I tried to make up for my past.

I have no doubt you are a true fan and will pitch in as soon as you can, then you can bash with the best of us.

Good posts '71...and none of your statements contradict each other.

As for belly, you said "Just more paper, more bureaucracy, more expense for school boards..."

That sounds like a dem's dream program
wink.gif

BTW, as a fellow government school teacher, I must say that really, for true teaching to take place, all you need it a teacher, a student, and a place to meet...the rest is just fluff.
