Baylor asked to speak to him and he turned them down saying he didn't want to rebuild a program. He said he's most likely pursue a pro coordinator position anyway.

And as a parting shot to his haters...

Chan offered to help Giff find a new job if he wanted it. He told Gif there would be an opening soon in Athens that might interest him.

Not sure if that is true...but that is not a big deal at all. Trust me on this....coaches talk to each other ALL YEAR LONG about other jobs, how they can move up, who can help who, etc. Almost like the business world...except 3-4 time worse because the turnover is 100% inside of 5 years.

If this is indeed true, CHAN GAILEY, you can officially kiss my ASS!!!
And also, if indeed this is true, all those times Gailey yelled "To Hell With Georgia" at those luncheons he hated going to, he sure as hell didn't mean it!

the clapper, where'd ya' hear this one? link?

Wow, that would suck if Giff Smith went to UGA. They recruit Georgia well enough already. I can understand it, though. As Michael Corleone said, it's business, not personal. If Athens really did offer a move huge move up in salary and position, Giff should consider it. He doesn't have the same ties to GT we do. Still, DRad better work like all hell to keep him here.

With regard to Chan, Baylor seemed like the most obvious choice, with his Christian background and everything. But I guess he's just too tired of all the non-football crap that goes along with being a college coach.

If Giff Smith ends up in UGA I will need a lot more booze from Kirbee.

..... saying he didn't want to rebuild a program.

Hmmm. I recall that when he came here he said everything necessary to win championships was in place and he wouldn't have come here if it wasn't because he didn't want to have to rebuild a program. Then, about a year later he said that it would take us 5 years to "get where we wanted to be." Then about 5 years later he said he had his most talented and experienced team. So I guess this is his vision of being where we "wanted to be?"

Well, at least he is consistent about the not wanting to rebuild a program part.

I dont know if this is true or not, i would not be surprised. I dont have such high regard as some of our former GOOD CHRISTIAN MAN. It is my opinion Giff Smith can see right thru this and Giff will be back at GT in some capacity.

Well, I have the distinct honor of being the individual who got to explain to Chan, one year into his tenure, exactly what was meant when someone asked "Whats the good word?"

I'm glad to hear he got it down pat.

Chan knew the meaning of "What's the good word?" when he was hired. He met with Reck Club shortly after being hired (Spring of 2002) and we asked that very question. He responded accordingly.
