Chan to interview with Pitt Friday

Just another organization that he has ties to and another place that had sought to interview him since Cowher resigned. I believe this is the Rooney family being the Rooney family -- Thorough.

I hear the Rooney family is wonderful, seriously. I don't care about their team though.
The Rooney family has also stated they will take their time in selecting Cowher's successor, and I don't blame them.

However, Chan Gailey should make deadlines to the Dolphins and Steelers if he is just entertaining "possibilities".
Radokovich has to be in a very difficult spot, and I doubt he likes it.

I cannot blame Chan for listening. If an organization wants to talk with him, then he owes it to himself to hear them out. However, his primary focus for now should be his current job, as I'm sure it is.

The hope here is that both the Dolphins and the Steelers make decisions soon. I don't really know what the Dolphins plans are, but in the case of Pittsburgh, I still believe that Ken Whisenhunt will be their next head coach.

"With college coaches,'' said GM Rich McKay, "because they can be damaged so much by it coming out that they're interviewing for a job, we wanted to make sure we had all our research done and then we'd be in position to make a quick decision if we had to.''

I don't think all of this interviewing is positive for the team. But, one thing working in Gailey's favor is that he has done a good job of selling GT rather than himself and his coaching staff. I think that is why our recruits are staying firm with their commitments.

I am ready for the smoke to clear & give us a picture of where we are really at. It is confusing & a bit disappointing that we still don't know where our HC will be or perhaps who it will be. All the while were getting closer & closer to "signing day".

Sometime soon very soon, D Rad should draw a line in the sand b/c he's going to run out of plugs for a dam wall that keeps springing leaks. Just as the people in LA what happens when the water rises too high.

At what point will D Rad be forced to make an announcement that he's setting up interviews to discuss "informally" for the HC position?
Can't wait forever & be left w/o a back up plan...Although it already says in one article that he's working on a back up & it's his job to be prepared in case Gailey does leave.

I still believe we will have some fall out in our recruiting class due to this situation....unless the craziness stops quickly.

DRad has a plan...

I am certain (no insider knowledge here), as he stated in the AJC article, that he is ready to act if something happens with Chan leaving. The recruits have to understand what is going on (Chan interviewing for what would be a huge promotion), and everyone is still on board as of right now. I fully expect that Chan would give DRad a heads up if he thinks he is getting an offer. DRad has a list, and has possibly already talked to people. I don't think this would drag out for a long time if Gailey were to announce he was leaving. I think a decision would be made extremely quickly...

SMoney..I am sure or at least hoping things are in order...Not trying to instill panic but it's a trying process...for all parties involved. Tough situation, professionallyfor Chan and for GT. I hope it works out BEST for everyone involved. I am just curious to see how it all rolls out...I didn't really see this one coming.

Ramblin - I completely agree. The next week or so will be EXTREMELY interesting for GT Football...

How 'bout the Steelers sign Whisenhunt and we just trade coaches - That would be sweet!

I suspect CCG is gone in either a few days or a few days + 365. He has clearly shown his hand as to his desire. What does he tell recruits next year?

Weren't there NFL jobs available each of the past 5 years? Clubs were either not interested in Chan or something tangible has changed to make him interested again, otherwise why come here to begin with and then proclaim repeatedly how he wanted to retire here? Strange way to go about it, huh?

Yup. Agree 100%. Whether CG wants to make more money than he can at Tech or whether he is being run off or whether he just wants to get out, it doesn't matter. Competing recruiters next year will be all over our targets telling them they will not know who will be their coaches.

I hate it, but there it is: Gailey has to go. Now. This program is in great shape currently - it will not be in as good a shape this time next year.

Please, please mark down that GEETEELEE has said, and I quote, "the program is in great shape currently"

Is this consistent with his previous posts? The program IS in great shape and the leader is Chan. Please consider stopping with the undermining of him GEETEELEE!

Chan is extremely familiar with three NFL teams. Two of them have openings this year and as for the third i don't think the relationship is as rosy. The fact that those teams are EXTREMELY familiar with Chan probably has a lot to do with why he is a candidate and why he wasn't a candidate for openings last year. He didn't show up on the list for Atlanta and I doubt if he shows up on the other unfamiliar teams. IMHO if he doesn't get hired by Pitt or Miami, the only other comments will come if Dallas opens up and they will be far less serious. It is very likely that he finishes as a second or third choice and that he will then retire here. Any improvement this year and even the worst fans will have to consider begrudging support.

Why wait GEETEELEE? Start supporting now! you admit we are in great shape. And quit overanalyzing this situation. It is perfect for you. If Chan stays, we should continue our momentum and if he leaves you will get your wish as to a coaching change. (If we don't keep our momentum, DRad will pull the trigger for you!) Cheer up!

To be fair, this has a lot to do with who's positions just opened up. Chan has a very good relationship with the organizations for both the Dolphins and the Steelers, but doesn't have ties to many other teams.

'crew....

You have me mistaken for the font known as "GeeTee".

GEETEELEE has always supported Gailey and often directly refutes GeeTee's foolish ravings. It's embarassing for his font to be so close to mine....

(from preventoffense)THe program was in great shape when he got here!

I wouldn't say the program was in great shape when Gailey took over. It was in good shape, but not as good as many think (flunkgate looming as one example, NCAA sanctions for another). It's in significantly better shape now than it was then.

AJ Suggs was qb. Doesn't matter what else is going on, it's hard to say the program was in "great" shape.

Not a lot that Radakovich can do except have a plan ready if Gailey leaves. Gailey should be the one telling the Dolfins/Steelers that he wants an answer so he can move on. The longer this takes the more damage that can be done.

I agree with that sentiment, too, beej. In fact, a week ago I thought that if Chan did leave, we might have a chance at Whisenhunt. However, with all the interest being shown him by NFL teams, I think he's already moved out of our price range, even with no NFL head coaching experience.
