Changing Allegiances

Anybody that switches allegiance from UGA to GT just because of PJ is not going to be around long. The only way PJ stays at GT for any amount of time is if he's slightly better than average, ie CG.

I think PJ would be given a bit of time, it's not just acoaching change is a system change. I not much of a PJ guy but I will give him a chance.

We can't expect to win it all in his first year or anything, but if we win the ACC in 2008 I wont be surprised either.

Well, the GT HFC job is now in the top ten as far as compensation is concerned. That kind of narrows the field. As a matter of fact, it is now a better job than georgie is as far as take home pay is concerned. :laugher:

I heard a caller today who said he was a GSU fan and had recently gone for UGA over Tech. He said he is now going for Tech over UGA. I hope there are many more like him.

I really believe this is another chance to bring in a lot of sidewalk fans ... I hope we "convert" this time.

I am excited, eitherway.

Jack who are you? Of your 3 posts I've read 2 of them and neither of them have been positive about Tech's program.

Chances are we may not see a significant improvement next year record wise. We are losing alot of talent on the D and both our punter and FG kicker. Plus we will have a new offense scheme and maybe defense as well. But there is no doubt that with PJ we are headed in the right direction.

Folks, this might be painfull, but the ultimate success of a coach and his program is measured by Ws and Ls. GT's nemesis has the track record to go along with his $2M+ contract. If PJ doesn't produce, DRAD will be eating crow and everyone will be second-guessing this gambit.

Let's not get too giddy until we see PJ reel off something close to seven wins against UGA.

A little perspective might be in order.

While I would love to see us fire back with seven in a row... I think baby steps, such as actually winning a game, are in order for now

i think his implication is that
>if PJ does not do well, he will be let go
>if PJ does well, he will take a job at a better/bigger/sexier/(insert descriptor of superiority here) program
>therefor, if PJ stays it is because he is neither doing well, nor poorly, in other words, mediocre

QED

In that case, maybe we should have stuck with Chan. Oh yeah, that's what many argued we should do since we could never hope for better results at GT.

Let's actually blow up the balloon before we pop it, shall we?

The only thing that makes "other jobs" better, sexier, etc. is a commitment to build the program at GT. If that commitment exists, then there would be no reason to move.

When Bobby Bowden started at FSU, it wasn't a top football school. Did he jump ship immediately after some success? No, the job he allready had became the "better job".

I would be much more worried about Muschamp or Hatcher jumping ship after ANY success than Paul Johnson. They would feel compelled to play any hot hand for an upgrade.

Whatever mutt. You said if PJ was successful, he would be out of here. I disagreed because GT now is one of the top paying jobs in the country.

I agree. CPJ said in his presser that he was looking for a job he could stay at long term and one that can win the MNC. If he reaches that second goal, the only thing that will keep the first one from happening will be our ability to keep him well-compensated. I think that question was answered by our AD and alumni yesterday.

If fans like him and he wins like he expects to, I think this could be PJ's last stop.

Yo, MidTown:
What part of Fayetteville do you live in? I'm there too. Off Redwine Rd.

PJ quoted in today's AJC that he hopes this is his last stop. He does not want to have to address another team to tell he is leaving. A man of fine character, I believe.
