Chan's Contract

thanks, just curious.

I've always liked Chan as a person, and I think he's good for Tech, but I torn. I hate to go backwards by bringing in someone who is worse. How are the Notre Dame faithful feeling about Weis right about now? So there is aways a fear that the next guy could be worse.

At the same time. I'm not sure how long the portion of the Tech Nation that does support him will continue after days like today.

Tech is a hard place to win, hard place to recruit and we are the step child in the state, so we don't get the support overall that UGA gets.

I'll support Chan and the players regardless.
But he makes it difficult not to be torn.

Great, great post, IMO. I think if/when we fire Chan we won't find a better coach as a replacement. But if he doesn't beat UGA this year, he will be fired.

The players always deserve our support. The coaches; however, are a different matter. Quit making excuses for Gailey. He knew the deal when he came here. He promised to take us to the next level, to win conference championships, and to beat Georgia. He has done nothing that he has promised to do. He was unable to do it with players that O'Leary recruited and I can't see him making good on those promises with his own recruits. He is handsomely paid, yet has accomplished nothing of substance.

Hey, didn't some kids in your city win the LLWS?

FWIW, we were 7-5 with a win in a who cares doesn't exist bowl in 97 and the same thing in 2001. Accoroding to every single poster on every GT board, this is mediocrity definded and why Chan should be fired. so, don't act like those were great years; those were medicore years and in 01 it was the most underachieving team in the history of GT football.

You're acting like some sportwriters voting you #25 instead of #26 means something. I understand numbers better than you evidently and those two teams were no better than any Chan coached team at GT. GT was ranked in some polls last year so can you clarify what polls you count as valid polls?

98-2000 were the glory years; 2001 was when the slide to medicrity began and last year we rose above it.

in 1997, we were a team that hadnt been ranked hardly at all (for years) and not been to a bowl since 1991. FOr a brief moment in 1992, we enjoyed some publicity until charlie ward came to town.
so in 1997, any bowl was a big deal.

in 2001 Stanford was 9-2 when we played them in the seattle bowl and probably a better team then fresno state (silicon clasic loss) or Utah (no name bowl worst ever loss). I think stanford was ranked #12 at the time. they also had the top-ranked scoring offense in the PAC 10, averaging 36.7 ppg and 449.1 ypg and they finished 9th in the BCS rankings that year.
