Two outstanding players that have major interest in the Jackets.

Interesting article on Scout has Chase Thomas down to three...Auburn, LSU, and Tech. He seems high on the campus and the coaching staff. Had a conversation with Tenuta and he still likes Tech :laugher:

Renfree attended camp last weekend and came away impressed and made some strong personal relationships. He was recently rated the sixth best player in Arizona and the 8th best pro style QB in the country.

It would be awesome if we could land these two. It would definitely boost the seemingly low morale of our recruiting efforts to this point.

I will go into more detail on these two prospects in the morning.

We are much further along with Renfree than we are chase thomas. Renfree could commit at any time. His quotes on his visit last weekend to GT were fantastic. He raved about the type of kid we recruit, the coaches, the campus, etc. He talked about character, academics, and football quality as all being high. He spit back out our sales pitch wonderfully!...good sign!

Last weekend was a good one for several key players!

Renfree is a young man with upside as a pocket passer and even at this stage is a fairly polished guy. He has very good size and a deceptively strong arm. His drops are smooth and his set up is balanced. He sees the field very well and he shows good zip on all the intermediate routes and deep out routes. He has a quick release and he shows the ability to fit the ball into tight spots. He makes quick throws and does not waste much motion in his delivery. He carries the ball tight to his chest and his fundamentals are consistent in the pocket. He shows the ability to lead his receivers if he has time to step into his throws. Shows adequate ball control and play fake ability. If he has time to sit in the pocket, make his reads and deliver, he can be a very productive quarterback. At times he will lock onto his target and hold onto the ball too long waiting for someone to come open. Shows good zip and can fit the ball into tight spots underneath, but his deep ball tends to fade on him the further he tries to drive it downfield. Overall, Renfree is still developing but he shows some intangibles coupled with more than adequate physical tools that any coaching staff would love to work with.

Simply put, Thomas is a football player. On film he does not come across as physically intimidating, but he produces and performs past expectations. He is light in the pants and will need to add some serious bulk to his frame, but despite the lack of ideal size, he does things you need from your end. He is physical at the point of attack. He fires off the ball with good pad level, shoots his hands, derives power from his lower body and can stand a blocker up. He impresses you with his level of strength and ability to hold his ground. He displays good upper-body strength to shed from a blocker and make a play. He works well laterally and can use his hands to shed from a blocker and stretch a play laterally. While not a burner, he appears to have good playing speed and flashes a nice little closing burst to the ball carry. He does a good job of coming across the ball and getting flat to chase plays down along the line of scrimmage. He is a physical wrap-up tackler. He has a great motor. For the most part, he takes sound angles in pursuit but will overrun the ball carrier at times. He does change directions well. He is a pretty well-rounded pass rusher for a high school prospect. Against the right opponent, he has enough explosiveness to get up field and run by a blocker. Most impressive, though, is his ability to use his arms to work moves. He displays a good command of getting to a blocker's up field shoulder, clubbing, and bringing his hand over to work past a blocker. He has good enough movement in his hips to get himself turned and slide by. Thomas is a talented athlete who could also be seriously considered as a tight end prospect, but his motor warrants him playing on defense. His biggest obstacle is size right now because he needs to add weight. If he was bigger, he might be garnering more attention. The positive thing is he has the frame to add weight. Thomas may be one of the sleepers of this class. He has good ability and plays the game well. Whoever gets Thomas will be adding a very good player who could open some eyes.

Both sound like really great players. Hopefully we land them both!
