Chat tonight at 8:00 pm Eastern Time. We will be discussing the Clemson/VPI game on ESPN and our upcoming game against scUM.

Everyone's welcome!!

Yeah, the order of operations really breaks down at this game. Very difficult who to root for.

I'm pretty much viewing it as win-win. If Clemson wins, then VT is pretty much mathmatically out of the running for the Coastal.

If VT wins, then the odds are low that we see Clemson again in the ACCCG.

That is why I'm rooting for VPI. Though, I don't see how on earth they can pull it off.

If VT wins, the odds are astoundingly low that Clemson gets an at-large BCS berth, though, which means it's more difficult for us to elbow our way into an east coast bowl if we don't win the ACCCG.

One example:
Consider Clemson losing tonight, then winning out. GT beats Miami, then loses the ACCCG to BC. Clemson has 2 losses and GT has 3. BC gets the BCS, Gator takes Clemson, Peach takes Miami, Tire takes NC State, Citris takes FSU, Music City takes VT, GT goes to Boise. Don't forget BC went to Boise last year with only 3 losses.

If we don't make one of the top 2 bowls in the ACC, then we get crapped on, historically.

Though, I don't see how on earth they can pull it off.

Oh, that's easy. Their runningbacks are probably all still exhausted from sprinting for over a quarter of a mile of offense against Tech.

beej67,
ducks the hail of tomatos at that cheap shot .. hehe

ACC Bowls are not allowed to reach that much any more. You can't pick a team with more than one additional conference loss ahead of us, so if we were to finish 7-1 in the league they could pick 6-2 teams ahead of us, but no worse than that. Last year 3-5 teams got picked ahead of us at 5-3, and that fortunately cannot happen again.

so if we were to finish 7-1 in the league
Right. I'm talking about us finishing with 2 losses in the league, above. So in that example, Gator takes a 2 loss Clemson, Peach takes a 3 loss Miami, Tire takes a 3 loss NC State, Citris takes a 3 loss FSU, ... and the Music City Bowl takes a 3 loss VT.

Right?

I assume we'll get picked higher than Wake, but possibly not for the Tire.

The only bowl we should be talking about is the ORANGE BOWL. We needn't talk of tire bowls, nut bowls, or any other bowls for that matter.

Well VT vs Clemson has no implications for us making it to the Orange Bowl, and the discussion was about who to root for. Hence why I fell back to the (certainly very slight) chance that we might not make it to a BCS bowl this year ... (?)

Yes there's a chance and we can talk about it, but I will choose only to talk of the sweet smell of ORANGES!!!

Despite my disdain for all things orange (Clemson topping the list) I'm simply looking at this game from an Atlantic/Coastal standpoint and pulling for VT to lose to Clemson (sounds better than pulling for Clemson to win anyway).

Clemson isn't looking all that good tonight....Can't say exactly who I want to win???
