So explain to me how this whole AJCBlog thing works. Can anyone get a blog on the AJC or do they appoint certain people? Because this is sad:

By now Alabama and Florida fans are streaming into Atlanta. Their coming in to witness what some are calling the greatest matchup ever in the SEC Championship Game..

Already forced to watch Georgia Tech revel in its victory last weekend, now their forced to watch the Tide and Gators party down in their fair city and waiting to get their tickets punched to Miami and some other BCS destination.

I know that run-of-the-mill bloggers aren't held up to any standards, but is this guy on the payroll or anything? Just wondering.

Also, I love that Atlanta is supposedly the fair city of Bulldog fans. This place belongs to Georgia fans that live here about as much as it belongs to Louisiana-Monroe.

I disagree....Its actually some of the best grammar I've seen from a mutt (they have different standards). Anyone have a copy of Knowshon's homework paper from last year?

You called it Jacket --Chip Towers is an a$$ clown.

ESPN did the same thing in our game vs. Penn State - they were putting up some "Jimmy V-isms" and there was at least one (maybe 2) quotes that used their instead of they're.

hah, I'm messing with dawg fans on the Towers blog:

I’m still lamblasted by the loss to Tech. You score 42 pts. and you should be guaranteed to win.

And Tech fans screaming about the game should play into account. It’s the first win in 8 games for you. You won by three points. You gave up 42 pts. But…you did win the game and your offense looked like it was clicking, as did UGA’s offense. UGA gave up over 400 yds. on the ground. Tech gave up over 400 yards through the air. Yes, UGA’s defense IS that bad. They’ve shown it all year. All we can do is shake our heads and look forward to August of 2010.*

You're not seeing the picture --let me clear it up for you.

Your dawgs were supposed to win it all this season; Preseason #1, Know Your Dawgs, Stafford, Moreno, Massiquoi (sp), etc, GT was predicted to win 3 games --3!, GT is the youngest team in the ACC (the ACC went 6-4 vs. the SEC btw), second youngest team in the nation, new coach and new offense to be learned, etc.

UGA got whipped. During the last quarter and a half of the game UGA never had the ball with a chance to take the lead --GT was in control and everybody knew it because UGA couldn't stop Dwyer or Jones.

UGA is climbing down from a peak, for the next couple of years or so the program will not attain the perch it is now coming down from. GT is on the rise, will be stronger next year, and even stronger in 2010. GT will probably win 3-4 straight over UGA. UGA will never again dominate the series, it's over. Domination ended for GT 40 years ago and domination for UGA ended last weekend. Get used to it because the times are not necessarily a-changin, they've already changed.

This is sad. And yesterday I saw an AP article talking about "attorney's"(that is supposed to be plural). I know everyone jokes around and says "it's just a message board, it doesn't matter," but I really believe that this attitude on message boards and in so many other facets of life is killing our written language. The more you read something, the more you become accustomed to it, and the more likely you are to slip up and not notice it.

pay me his salary to post here...and I will make sure it is.
Perfect! You could then take all the money and buy everyone on Stingtalk one "BACK OFF" mudflap. If there isn't enough money then just buy one for everyone except Kyle. ;)

I'd hate to see the number of misspellings and bad grammar I use while blogging.

So I'm not going to give the guy any grief at all. :biggrinbounce:

Him write good.

In fairness, they have to crank that out fast without a lot of time to go back over their work. And with the AJC having lopped a couple hundred folks off the payroll the last few years, there's not as much in the way of a backstop behind them when they do have to be in a hurry.
Hey, Barnhart had a bad error - like Pepe Frias bad - last week when he left the word "Tech" out between the words "Georgia" and "coach Paul Johnson." And that crap stayed up on the AJC Web site ... all ... week ... long.
BTW, Barnhart - UGA grad. Towers - spent several years in Athens before going to the AJC. Don't know if he's an Athens Adult Daycare grad.

I usually defend the AJC but there is absolutely no excuse at all for mixing up "their" and "they're." It basically means he didn't proofread his own article even once, because that is a third-grade level mistake. It is embarrassing.

It's a blog man! Nerdy Tech guys criticizing typos is hilarious!

I don't care if it's a note-to-self written on the back of a damn napkin, a grown man should be able to differentiate between "their" and "they're." ESPECIALLY someone who writes for a living. If it was a typo, that would be one thing. This is a stupid mistake made TWICE within a couple of sentences.

True, that's a pretty bad error, but you folks probably have zero experience in this field. You probably don't even realize that there are many great writers who have terrible spelling and grammar skills. They rely on editors and copyeditors to clean up their work work. This is just how it works in the business. Being a great writer is not the same as being a great, consistent and diligent grammarian. Move on... Focus the criticism on substantive matters and get over, to re-deploy a phrase, the "gotcha journalism."
