Ohio State has a $110MM Athletic budget now (most of course being Football,) probably $50-60MM when Tressell came from Youngstown St. He was a winner there, had been in Div 1 years before (after graduating from of all places Balwin-Wallace as a 4year starting cum laude QB) My question: If Ohio St chose him to lead arguably (in their own minds) one of the most storied programs in Div 1 NCAA Football, and cam from Div II then why cant or shouldnt Chris Hatcher be our Jim Tressell? Winning HC, been in Div I earlier, 2 time Player of Year as a QB at Val St, won nation championship, etc. If Tressell can do the DIV 1 job at of all place OHio St, then surely CHris Hatcher has the HC experience, the academic focus (he won the national academic/atheletic award as well while at Val St, and from what Ive seen has the "it" factor to be the Head coach at GT for what we need right now. I keep coming back to him vs these others in my own mind when looking at the situation.

The difference is that Tressel was extremely successful at Youngstown State in Div I-FCS for 14 YEARS from 1986 to 2000. While he was at YSU, he won 4 National titles in 1991, 1993, 1994, & 1997.

Hatcher, OTOH, has only one year under his belt in Div I-FCS.

You cannot compare Hatcher to Tressel AT ALL imo.

Ok, but was Tressel not a good enough coach to make the jump after winning it the 2nd time in '93 or maybe in '94? He spun his wheels fo another 6-years while he was probably ready. We'll never know, but its no more a gamble than taking an inexperienced cordinator.

I was just trying to illustrate that you really can't compare the two all that much. It wasn't a Pro or Anti Hatcher post.

Hatcher and Johnson both compare reasonably to Tressell IMO. I guess when Tressell wasn't winning the IAA national title at YSU, it was because Johnson was winning it at GSU. Now Johnson has moved into IA and has won as much as you can possibly win at Navy!

Hatcher has won as much as you can possibly win at VSU and in his first year rebuilding GSU from the Van Gorder disaster.

Both would be absolute homeruns.

Valdosta State is Division II though. Let's give him a few years in Div I-FCS and then we can say if he compares with Tressel.

The comparison is that if Tressell is successful at a much bigger deal at Ohio St. then Hatcher can be successful at GT in the same way. Its not as big a deal to me if Hatcher was chosen HC at GT than Tressell of all people being chosen as HC up there. Im sure when he was hired there were plenty of "i dont know if he can do it at Div I" and Im sure for most that is true- but obviously the Ohio St Athletic Director thought he had the "it" factor- and I believe that Hatcher has it as well. He will get a great job before we ever have a chance, unless we get him now...Oh, and he and Tenuta are friends...

where did you hear that? Not saying it is not possible, but I can't see where those two would haver ever crossed paths to become "friends". Not doubting, just asking.
