Sounds good, but is there any reason to believe that he would leave Boise State for GT? He has a pretty good program going over there in Idaho.

He only makes 850K a year surely we can do better than that! Plus we are in a major conference... The guy before him left for a better job...Let's make it worth his while

He's paid very well for any coach (I think it comes out to over a $mil all things considered), especially one in Boise, Idaho. Last year, the Boise AA anticipated his demand and gave him a raise and extension, and the word is he is very happy in Idaho.

I think eventually he will move on, but not for a few years, and probably for a better gig out West, which is where he is from. I would love to have him, but even if we doubled his salary I'm not sure it would happen...

norm Chow Or Bust!

I think we all know you want Norm Chow. I personally don't think of him as a top candidate because of his age. Can you give us some talking points besides his performance as OC at USC. What makes you think he'll be a good HC.

I agree, I would love to hear some points of discussion on Chow. Something doesn't sit right with me about him. I admit ignorance, though.

I like the idea of Chris Peterson simply due to the fact that he is young and has been part of an exciting program. I think we all can agree that Tech needs some injection of excitement.

I think Edsall is my favorite because he is building something. I think a minus is the fact that he has been at Tech already. I was never much a fan of going back to an old girlfriend, and I think the same applies to a coach. However, again with the excitement thing. Also, he'll be easy to lure away because there is nothing going on in Storrs. I've spent a considerable amount of time up there and I feel sorry for the students. They have to go to Hartford for a good time!

Petrino is my pie in the sky. Obvious reasons, plus I think it is more realistic than some might think.

I like Bobby Johnson because he has beaten ga. Also, he has to deal with a lot of adversity, apathy, and extremely difficult recruiting.

etc.

Chris Petersen is going to end up in a bidding war to go to A&M or Nebraska or Clemson or one of about 9 other "big time" programs, and Boise State is going to bid to keep him too. He might get priced out of our range fairly early. Bare in mind both A&M and Nebraska are likely going to be shelling out 3M/yr for their next coach.

I like the Petersen idea if we could get him.

More talking points for Norm Chow are what he did w/ Rivers at NCST.

Yeah Petrino would be my first choice as well. He's already here in GA recruits know him all ready and he's a good offensive mind and was hired to devolop Vick... I just think he's way unrealistic. I think he gets at least one more year. How come you think otherwise?

Here are the QBs he has coached (not like was on the staff but was their QB coach/OC):

Jim McMahon
Ty Detmer
Steve Young
Philip Rivers
Carson Palmer
Matt Leinart
Current coach of vince young

He has his Doctorate. He is a certifiable genius. He isas smart or smarter than Fridge and isn't much overweight. He would recuit a CA QB every year and we would have leading Heisman candidtates playing the QB position as long as he is here.

He was an Academic AA in college and has coached very smart QBs. I believe he has coached at stanford before but was passed over for the head job there for as they hired Walt Harris instead.

Petrino is laughable.

head coach Tom Coughlin, whom Petrino worked under in Jacksonville, called Petrino "the best play-caller I've ever been around."
NCAA
41-9Championships
Won2004 Conference USA 2006 Big East

Obviously respected to come in and be given the job of HC for the falcons. He's known for devoloping QB's, why is he so laughable again?
I think they'll keep him too...
So Chris Peterson. Wow can you imagine running that offense here! We'd be stealing recruits from the SEC left and right. Those young WR and QB would be dying to play for us as we rack up 50 points a game.

he's under contract fo millions in the NFL. Why would he leave that?

Secondly, he could be a great coach at any SEC school. why would he leave for GT where he has many restrictions? He is a football coach more than a teacher. We need a very smart man who would fit at Stanford, duke, ND, etc. Gt is different than auburn or Bama or LSU where Petrino would work very well.

Petrino is a great coach but he is not leaving the Falcons and he wouldn't consider GT thus making it laughable.

By "laughable" I meant "TOTALLY OUT OF OUR REACH, EVEN WHEN HE WAS AT LOUISVILLE, SO STOP BRINGING HIS NAME UP."

Sorry, I was entirely unclear, I should have phrased my post better.

I gotcha... I was scratching my head on that one... Yeah, well I hate to say it I just don't know if this is really a great year to hire a new HC here at GT...We'll have some big names competing against us and plus a lot of good coaches aren't available... SIGH ... I just hope we don't fire gailey and bring some guy in that's not going to make us an elite program...

Well sir, I hate to break it to you, but aiming for "elite program else disappointment" isn't very healthy. I hope we get a coach who can do as good, and perhaps a wee bit better, than Chan has. Don't throw your eggs in the 'elite' basket, settle for the 'improvement' basket and you're more likely to enjoy the next few years.

I think we have a lot of options for coaches that might be able to show us an 'improvement,' and we should by all rights be able to get one or two of them, so I'm pretty happy with our chances to not get shafted.
