Jeremy Ciulla, a big OL from our own yard in Kennesaw, decides to play @ Mich. Brad Lester, a good RB from Parkview, decides to play for Auburn (always a thorn in our recruiting side). Uga already has 2 in-state commits (usually we don't recruit the same players).
It struck me that maybe GT's staff just can't recruit Ga. Perhaps the staff doesn't have what the Ga players & HS coaches are looking for? Perhaps we don't smooze their way? Perhaps we don't really care if we get Ga players or not & it's just not a priority? Perhaps we don't make an impression on visits to HSs? Something seems to be botching up our connection to the Ga HS talent.
Although true, it's a shame that GT can't get 25 Ga players that make the grades academically & athletically. But to be able to get only 7-8 max out of 21-25? It just brings a question to my mind that the recruiting of Ga simply isn't there & was wondering why?
I'm not saying it's a good or bad thing. As many know, I do think the hodge-podge, hop-scotch, low numbers of the recruiting philosophy will kill this staff, & soon, I still see this yr as a recruiting boon for GT. If we miss the opportunity to hit Ga & Fla hard, with the chance to play Miami & VT, then the staff will put GT in a hole for a long time to come. GT must bring in around 25 real good players this season, period, or the staff will not recover.
Keep in mind, my ONLY concern is for GT. Couldn't care less if this Staff stays or goes (they are making their own bed now), but whoever is here in '04,'05 must have some very good players for GT to compete. As I watch the top players in Ga start to slip away, again, it saddens me & makes me nervous for GT.

I think we performed well in Florida and Texas last year. Ever seen the Florida all stars whip the Georgia all stars in football? There is a distinct difference in overall population and talent level between our state and theirs so I wouldn't put all of my eggs in getting Georgia players at all costs. The same thing goes for Texas. The talent level is tremendous in that state so building bridges there is of use to GT. Football is king in Texas.

We did seem to make some inroads to Georgia with the signing of Ball, Gaston, and Wrotto, among the few others. Of course Gaston went to Walton, which is the best HS in the state academically, so that makes sense that he would go to GT. Most high school players will always look at UGA because it is the school of the masses.

clough and braine have insulted the taxpayers and their children of this state by indicating that we want their tax money but their children are not good enough for us so much that it has put our coaching staff at more of a disadvantage than strict academics should on its own. Will take 4 or 5 years to overcome clough/braine.

So the kid choose Mich BIG DEAL LETS MOVE ON THE RECRUITING YEAR IS JUST STARTING. I ran a quick cout on how many kids in Ga has/had GT/ga listed
from rivals and the insiders and here is what i came up with RIVALS GT 68 ga 88 INSIDERS GT 34 ga 56. The season is still early sit back and enjoy the ride.

As I recall we are dead-even in the Ga.-Fla. allstar game, or was going into last years game. I would need to look it up to be exact on the W-L records though. With Butch Brooks on board to work on our high school relations and by all accounts does a tremendous job in this area. Remember he was an excellent high school coach for years. My guess is that Coach Gailey has not and needs to start making inroads with Georgia coaches. We need to be competing for these players just as we are going Florida and Texas student-athletes. Personally I have yet to note in our local papers of Gailey making any appearances at our high schools to meet our coaches.

How many of the top 100 or for that matter top 50 in Ga are mentioning Tech? That's where you'll begin to find the answer. Just because the first few kids to commit aren't to Tech doesn't mean we aren't recruiting the state. Anybody know?

Not sure what this means, but on Rivals they list 63 GA recruits as having interest in Tech as of today. Didn't try to count how many total, but I'd estimate that's about a third of the total listed as having interest in Tech. While I'm sure some of these kids aren't really that interested I'm also sure there are others who haven't been identified yet. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it doesn't make sense to say on one hand that we aren't trying to recruit Ga and that Ga kids aren't interested and then look at this kind of info. BTW Lester wasn't listed. Also didn't notice Ciullo.
