I've been listening to the ESPN predraft comments... I'm hearing stuff like "he was underutilized at Tech" as they compare to him to some of the all-time greats among Heisman Trophy winners. "The best draft prospect since Bo Jackson", knowing his remarkable talents didn't come close to winning the Heisman while with us.
Yes, we're being mentioned a lot, but the comments almost come over as if he was wasted at Tech.
Is the Draft Day exposure really good for us?

I hate to break this to you, but he was under-utlized at GT. Whats so difficult to understand about that. We had a highschool qualified OC whose gameplan was for a Safety to play QB and throw up hail mary's in an attempt to get our best player the ball. I absolutely hate it that we had a clown QB while Calvin was at GT. It just feels dirty. Like we cheated on our wife or something. I need to go take a shower.

Probably depends alot on how the QB situation works out this year. If we can't get consistency this year, then I think it will become painfully obvious that we just aren't developing QBs like we should be. We can pass off Suggs and Ball just not being good enough QBs to compete in major college football, but I don't think any high-caliber players are going to be fooled if we struggle at that spot once again, with a new guy at the helm.

Having the best player in the draft is a positive no matter how else you want to spin it. Players notice.

No one is really bashing GT, just taking shots at Reggie Ball. But it's all fact: He spent his 3 years catching erratic passes.

Think about it. A few better throws and Calvin doesn't have some spin around catches at Miami and the Spiderman catch at N.C. State.

It certainly is, but they probably also notice that Calvin isn't your typical receiver. He didn't become 6'5 with great hands because he went to Georgia Tech. Players with less ability want to be assured they can go somewhere that will maximize their draft position.

He didnt come to GT as the best WR in the country, he wasnt even the top one coming out of high school, but he sure did leave that way! His athletic ability was most of it, but he had some great coaching on the flats to put his abilities to the next level.

Definitely good exposure. Hearing him introduce himself as "Calvin Johnson, Georgia Tech" during in-game NFL introductions will help too.

Many people thought he was the best WR to come out of GA in years before he even signed with Tech, which is why he was considered by most analysts the top player in the state that year. He came with fanfare and he left with it as well. There's just little doubt he could have made a serious Heisman run at a dominant program. His many games with 3 or fewer receptions killed any hopes for it with us.

Calvin Johnson was very good for Gt today! He is a great young man with incredible talent. The combination of height, speed, weight, strength, hands, and vertical leap is unbelievable. He was very gracious and poilte in all interviews today. I predict, barring injury, he will be very good in the NFL and a great ambassadeor for Tech. I hope he will play with a decent offense and QB. I'll be pulling for him on Turkey Day!

WR's don't win the Heisman unless they return kicks as well. CJ may have been a little more hyped somewhere else (although it's hard to see how) but no Heisman.
