This is from an article on ESPN:

A source said Phillips told the football staff this morning that Dabo Swinney was going to be the interim head coach the rest of the way, and if it went as well as he thought it would, that his decision on the head coach at the end of the year would be "easy."

It comes from this article.

Apparently the AD has plenty of confidence in Swinney. If you want to know more about Swinney, ESPN has a short write-up on him and his background.

I would love to see our boys go in there and absolutely destroy them. Because it is obvious that this is a "new beginning" game for them. They are going to be looking to prove something ... just like us.

What I didn't understand is this: If this guy has so much confidence in Swinney and the decision on the new head coach is going to be so "easy," why the hell did they give Bowden an extension last season?

He gave him an extension--but came with a requirement to win the ACC next year. Having lost 2 games in the ACC already, that was where the "win against GT or be fired" came from -- no way to win the ACC if you lose 3 games -- hard enough losing 2. So lose against GT, and you fail to fulfill the requirement put up when the extension was given.

Saw this in one of the ESPN stories.

That article did not really say a lot. The guy was hired by Bowden in 2003 after being out of football for two years. He is never been anything but a position coach. But, apparently he was chosen because he is a good recruiter and good with the media? Wasn't Tommy Bowden considered a good recruiter and good with the media at one time? What is this "cult of personality" obsession this country has now? If he is young and talks well then he MUST be a great leader. Clemson needs an experienced and fundamentally sound football coach. Get over all of this fluff and smoke and mirrors crap they have been throwing out there the past few years.

Let's face it, Phillips is a fool. Clemson football is stuck in neutral, baseball had as bas a season as they've had in years, basketball still isn't anything, hell even their soccer program is down I think. What I want to know is why he hasn't been fired yet.

bringing the money???

from http://www.clemson.edu/newsroom/articles/2008/july/2008_fundraising.php5:

IPTAY, which raises money for athletic scholarships, raised $21,018,962, an increase of $5.6 million over last year, due in part to the new seat-equity plan.

“Our donors are our most valuable asset. We recognize this fact and sincerely thank them for their benevolence. Supporting student-athletes is a great way to support Clemson and to impact the life of another human being," said Bill D’Andrea, senior associate athletic director for external affairs. “The seat-equity plan was not designed or implemented to raise more revenue, but rather to ensure equity among our donors and their eligibility for seating and parking. The competitive element of this process reflects the competitive spirit of athletics, while also providing increasing revenue streams to support our individual student-athletes. Our donors continue to support our student-athletes and our main purpose.”

IPTAY’s membership stands at 16,256, a slight increase from last year.

“The fact that our membership has increased speaks a great deal to our donors’ devotion, loyalty and passion for Clemson,” said D’Andrea.

IPTAY is the oldest athletic fundraising organization of its kind in the country and will celebrate its 75th anniversary this year.
