Clemson and GT QB situation

I have been thinking about this a little and today Shaw is still at the top of the depth chart, and Nesbitt is practicing with LIMITED contact. If Nesbitt can't go Saturday because of his hammy, who do we start with Clemson??? Would we start the QB who is sharper, Shaw, or the QB possibly coming off a three game sit-out?

It's a little scary to think about, but consider that Nesbitt definitely has the better eluding capabilities than Shaw, which gives him the edge in the more rounded QB, we have seen Nesbitt make quite a few fundamental ball carrrying mistakes. If he starts for the first time against Clemson, will those same mistakes continue due to his time out, or god forbid get worse? Shaw seems to have the ball carrying thing down a little better, save for the mesh fumble in the red zone against Duke.

Also, PJ said Shaw took a shot to the head in that game....not much else was said. I don't know if PJ was eluding to a mild concussion or not. I doubt it though, Shaw seems fine.

Shaw, no question.

The success of this offense is predicated on timing and execution. I don't care how much better an athlete Josh is than Jaybow, if Nesbitt hasn't been working with the offense, he might as well just run his one play from last year.

If Nesbitt doesn't get a full week of practice before Clemson then he won't get the start.

For the record, I have no idea if this coincides with what Kyle posted, since I've still got him on ignore.

I could care less who starts as long as we get a win. I would like to see how Shaw would react to playing on the road in a hostile environment against a rival and against a good fast defense like Clemson's. I don't think Shaw would have made it against VT or BC's defenses like Josh did. Especially BC's front four. But I feel comfortable with Shaw or Josh behind center. I feel more comfortable with Josh, especially on the road.

Nesbitt needs to be full speed and have a full week of practice to start IMO.

I have faith that PJ will know what to do.

I hope Josh is back soon.

I'd guess that unless Josh gets a full week's practice @ 100% (hammy back to normal) Jaybo starts w/Josh coming off the bench. CPJ may have other ideas.

I'd kinda think this week we'd see Shaw and the 3rd and 4th stringers if we do as well as expected.

I don't understand why everyone keeps saying that Shaw takes care of the ball better than Nesbitt at this point. Yes I know we lost more fumbles before Nesbitt got hurt and Jaybo came in but in reality we have done no better with putting the ball on the ground we have just been luckier in recovering them.

JAX St. 5 fumbles 1 lost
BC 3 fumbles 3 lost
VT 3 fumbles 2 lost
Miss St. 3 fumbles 0 lost
Duke 4 fumbles 1 lost

Perception is that Jaybo is taking better care of the ball because we have only lost 1 of the last 7 fumbles. The ball has just bounced our way in the last 2 games. We still need to take better care of the ball, we have had 18 total fumbles so far this season.

As long as Nesbitt doesn't re-hurt it before then, definitely Nesbitt.

I hope he's able to play a couple series this weekend and then get a full week of practice in.

We're gonna need him.

That's the real question. In the early games we lost 1 KO return, 1 punt return, at least one fumble was by a WR, Dwyer has fumbled I think, after the mesh, not sure what else. I don't know that Josh has actually fumbled any more than Jaybo has to tell the truth.

We desperately need Josh for this game. And PJ knows that too in my opinion. He is just taking no chances in not doing the right thing to have him ready. I think you will see him this weekend in a limited number of plays. Josh would have broken several big ones against Duke as the crease was there but Jaybo could not get by the first hit, like Josh could have. There is a whole lot of difference in tackling number 9 and number 11. Hey, I love Jaybo too, but Josh definitely gives us the best chance of taking the Tigers in Death Valley, if he is ready to play.

From the Cumulative Stats as of last week:
Nesbitt: 6 fumbles - 3 lost (in games versus JSU<first half>, BC, VT, MS<partial game>)
Shaw: 4 fumbles - 1 lost (in games versus JSU<second half>, MS<partial game>, and Duke)

Nesbitt went out on the first drive in the MS game - so that makes what, a tenth of a game? Shaw played the rest - so give him 0.9 for that game. Split the JSU game by the half essentially. So that makes 2.6 games for Nesbitt and 2.4 for Shaw, giving us 1.67 fumbles per 4 quarters for Shaw and 2.31 fumbles per 4 quarters for Nesbitt. Statistical significance? Who knows/cares - I'll leave that to the statisticians....

Some may say that Shaw is handling it better, but look who he's played - Nesbitt has played against MUCH better defenses (don't go on about MSU being great on defense just because they held a highly OVERRATED Auburn to 3 points)

Make what you want from those numbers, but still, 10 fumbles from our QBs in 5 games is not pretty - We seriously need to handle the ball better and stop relying on it "bouncing our way" if we're going to win down the stretch.

Your statement seems a bit contradictory to me.

I think that we would have a real uphill battle against anyone of the remaining teams (sans GW and UVA) w/o Josh's superior ability to make a play after it breaks down. Our interior o-line is still not playing that well (to put it nicely). We will need Josh to make chicken salad out of chicken **** to beat the better teams until the o-line improves.

Shaw has experience against Duke and Miss St (crappy teams) at home. Nesbitt has experience against BC and VT (better teams) ON THE ROAD. It is simple to me. Start Nesbitt.

I think everyone remembers how Nesbitt played in the Spring Game (this coming off a hammy injury).

That's what worries me. He was rusty.

However, he has a better grasp as to what's going on now.
