It’s really incredible to read all the smack talking they are doing of their coach and Tony Elliot. I promise if Tech ever has success anywhere close to the level Clemson has then I will shut up about a bad or down season.

It was interesting listening to Dabo. He defended the QB except for fumbling and praised his running. He said Tech came out in a defense they had never seen and that the D we played would not allow them to pass. That they had to run the ball, period. He called a it bubble secondary with 2 deep cloud. I find it hard on TV to see formations completely given you do not see the defensive backfield but it was clear 3 down lineman and not a lot of linebacker cheating to the line. I give the defensive coaches credit for a good game plan and a little more credit to the defensive line than I did yesterday. Despite just begging them to run the ball, we held our own. #88 could make a big difference if we could get him going and one more like him would be nice.

At the game yesterday, Clemson fans are not happy. Some around me were angry, some just confused, especially about the offense ineptitude compared to the past several years.

I don’t know what is going on with Clemson this year but their offense is unusually bad and I think a lot of it has to do with their offensive line. Sunshine and Etienne were an unusually good duo for the college game so I expected some drop off but the new QB can’t pass the ball more than seven yards. I don’t know if it is a skill issue or he is in panic because of his offensive line

As @79tech posted above, Dabo said we showed a look that they were not prepared for.

On Georgia Tech’s defense: “They absolutely lined up in nothing that we prepared for. They decided that they were going to just play odd double cloud and play corners up, play overhangs and make us go everything in between the tackles and give us the opportunity there to do that and just not let us have the big play. That’s just kind of what they were going to do.”

I think this helped us for sure but the offense was just as woeful against Smart, though Smart has a great defense every year so it’s hard to make a comparison. It will be interesting to see if they can turn it on this year or not. It’s been weird watching their QB put balls in the dirt 6, 7 yards downfield… it’s very unlike a Clemson QB going all the way back to Tajh Boyd

It wasn't just the look. We executed well and they seemed to struggle with rhythm. I think a lot of it is that their ol isn't invincible anymore.

I can’t say I’m blame them. Nothing we have shown going into this game suggested it should be close. Give credit to Tech but they also have to realize they’ve had back to back generational talent at QB and I’m not sure I saw a third yesterday. That’s not to take away from what GT did on defense but rather just how good Watson and Lawrence was.

Well it certainly was an interesting approach funneling their plays to what is supposed to be the weakest part of our defense. That being said, Clemp had almost 2 hrs in the locker room to figure out what to do. From what I saw they had nothing. Just bad coaching on their part.

You got a bunch of 5 stars and high 4 stars on your offensive roster & you can’t game plan around Thomas & Domineck, the only 2 players we have that supposedly match their high standards of recruiting? As Key has found, it’s generally easy coaching a bunch of future NFL’ers. The rubber meets the road when you have back ups not intended to ever start that aren’t all that you wanted physically & you need to coach them to exploit whatever strengths they may have to win.

Honestly, our defensive plan wasn’t that different than last year. We didn’t pressure and basically had 8 guys covering. The difference was Lawrence was able to pick that apart. And Ettine(sp?) was able to turn 5 yard runs into 40 yard runs.

Clemson either needs to devote itself to the running game, or get a qb who can read coverages.

I never thought they would run for only 156 yards on a mostly 3 man front. And the QB had 46 of those. Hell, they used to get 300+ on our bend and break 8 man box!
