It will not happen. There's no way he leaves UGA right now and replaces a legend. No way. That would be career suicide, IMO.

Don't ever replace a legend. Bowden is losing his edge now and some of the Semi-nation wants him gone, but when he finally steps down, the pressure on the next guy will be unbearable.

CMR is better off staying put at UGA where the expectations are not so high. They're high...but not FSU-type high.

Just MHO.

actually there are MANY factors why someone would take the job

1. his wife is from the area and it is probably his "home"
2. he has the "ego" to believe he can do a good job
3. SEC east is not exactly the safe haven for coaching success

I have heard that amato may be on their wish list but if given the opportunity Richt would probably go back there

I really dont care either way

Totally agree about the SECE. For any team to survive unbeaten out of that division alone before you even look at the SEC overall is remarkable. UGA has gotten extremely lucky this year as it seems that all the cards have fallen into place for them. You can go back a dozen years and not find any time when both UF and Tenn have sucked this bad, it really seems like some redneck over in Athens hit the lottery or something! I do think Richt would consider a move back to Tally but I'm not sure he'd be a lock for it though...

FWIW, I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up in Nebraska if things erode much further there. He's from the area originally (Oklahoma) and NU would give him the moon. Either way, I can't see him living amongst the unwashed for very long. You can only take that dog stink for so long.

Dooley will die before he lets any coach come close to his "aura" at Ugag. Seriously. I don't think Dooley's massive ego could handle MR being more successful than he was.

Ever been to a MR press conference? Dooley pretty much has to "ok" every answer that deals with any type of controversy. I'm wondering how much MR will take.

BBR

Most FSU fans never liked Richt, and Richt got the blame for most of FSU's letdown.

Couple that with Richt being a Miami alum, and this discussion is pointless.

Plus, Richt has a real chance to finally tap UGA's full potential, which IMHO may turn out to be a bigger juggernaut than FSU....

Now for Tech to keep pace...

Bug,Flunkout, I completely agree. It seems to me that the FSU alums would be torn mightily by any hiring of MR. I keep reading something about a quarterback controversy which he handled/mishandled while there. Also many of them continue to blame him for the bowl loss he coached while in transiet to UGAG. I think it would take something mighty big to lure him from Athens and there are not many of those around.

Bubba, I just don't buy that argument that Dooley won't allow anyone to beat his record. Didn't Vince hire Richt? Isn't football success ultimately Dooley's responsibility? I just don't buy it at all. If you recall, some people were saying the same thing about Dodd, but I don't believe that either.

not fsu, nebraska a real possibility, expectations tempered a little due to solich.i said on this board about a week ago, when i was in omaha on a business trip, his name is frequently mentioned as a possible head coach.

Dooley/Adams will give CMR a big fat raise after this year to keep him around. Mark my words. That's the only way they lose CMR...if they don't give him a raise.

As far as Dooley not wanting a coach to be better than him, that's hogwash (no offense, bubba). I think Dooley will retire in a year or two and then it won't matter what he thinks.

If you ask me, the best choice for the FSU job is Chuck Amato. But I think Chuck is happy at his alma mater. FSU might have a hard time hiring someone. It'll be interesting.

At most, I see Bowden staying on through 2003. After that, I think he'll retire and let someone else run that ship.

Good point, and I think you're right.

However, UGA to FSU seems like a lateral move to me, especially when it comes to $$$.

FSU's biggest advantage is national exposure. Hell, Tech gets a whole lot more national exposure than UGA.

why dost thou forsake me?

I TOLD you that Richt was going to FSU, how many times do I have to tell you hard headed nerds. The only thing Richt would consider over FSU is Miami...

Won't happen so he's off to FSU, I'd say December 17th....

unless the dawgs make the Fiesta bowl, in which case it will be Jan 5th...

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">I don't see how you could say that. FSU had 12 straight top 4 finishes, something I don't ever see being duplicated. That is probably more top 4 finishes than UGA has in the entire history of the school. The also played in 3 out of 4 BCS national championship game. It is not possible to have more potential than FSU.

I did not catch any fish with my above statement.

My reliable source was law-bee. His subpost under this thread was going to be my reliable source.

Sorry law-bee!
