790 the zone just did a great interview with Coach Gailey. The Southern Comfort guys seem to be pretty knowledgable about our team and players.
Please excuse any typos. Here is a recap:
1. There will be a plan for the QB rotation. They will script out when and how much each QB will play unless the game dictates otherwise. The players will know in advance. CG says you have to have great character kids to make this work and both are great kids.
He said that A.J. has surprisingly good mobilty and most folks don't realize how strong d-bo's arm is. The difference is AJ has that playing experience and you can see it in the things he does. AJ got better every practice.
2. Running back situation is Tony Hollings and everyone else. There is ability in the depth but guys have to stay healthy and show what they've got. Mentioned Clinkscale as well.
3. Offensive line- We aren't a physical team but the left side is very big and physical. Reilly is a big strong center as well. Wallace is at about 282-285, they hope to get him sronger but he is a very good athlete. We have the potential to have a physical line. Depth is a question but there is some potential there, we need to see these guys do it in a game though. It's tough to get them experience.
4. The DL line is Gathers and everyone else. Others have not stepped up yet to the point where you say it's his job. We will rotate a lot of guys and look for them to rise to the front. Lots of options though. We are going to have to move our light defensive front around a lot so that our LBs can make plays. Tenuta is very good at this.
5. Our LBs can run and play with anybody in the country very very good group. Folks don't realize how good a leader D. Smith is. He has the chance to be one of the best in the country.
6. Muyres is a great leader. Not the most gifted athlete in the world but he's a great football player. CG said during his career he's been asked if he would like more speed or size in certain spots. CG said yes, but I'm not going play great athletes over great football players.
7. Good year for recruiting transition. He said they held on to 7 of 8 commitments and had only 8 more ships to give.
8. Said the goal for the program is to be champions. If you aren't trying to be a champion shouldn't be in it.
9. The biggest difference with the college game is you never know what to expect the next day. Kids have a lot of distractions at this age and you never know what will come up. The positive is the kids are not primadonas or hardened veterans. They work hard every day to get better.
10. Jerry Jones was not a bad guy but he fired CG. Said that there was talk about JJ letting him go and CG said make up your mind. Don't let it drag out. If you're going to fire me, fire me.
11. In response to FSU, said they should be awfully good again, but told the host "They've got to come to our house though"
12. He was asked about the pressure to succeed in coaching and he said. The lure of being a champion outweighs the fear of being fired.
