Coach Nix said the real \'plum\' of the class was

Reshaun Grant. When asked by Buck Belue on 680 who Nix thought was the best player Tech got, Nix replied "Reshaun Grant. He's a great running back & a great person. He's a National Honor Student. He can take it & go all the way. The Ga Tech fans are going to enjoy watching Reshaun play very shortly".
When Belue asked who was the 'sleeper' of the class, Coach Nix answered "Chris Dunlap. He's got some speed. He appears to be able to catch the ball."
Nix said "I think it's an excellent class".
When asked who may play early, Nix came up a little short with "Grant, maybe Scott, one of the QBs if they come through & 1 of the LBs if they're ready." For an 'excellent' class, he sure didn't think many could contribute quickly

They want to redshirt. Even great classes have to beat out the guys in front of them.

The QB's have to beat out Bilbo and CO. The Scott's of the world have to beat out the Houston's. The Hall's of the team have to beat out the McNair's. This goes on and on. They'll have to compete. Guys are on campus now getting bigger and strong as the days draw nearer to Spring and then Fall.

A coach identifying how many players he feels MIGHT contribute early doesn't coincide with how good a class is in my opinion.

You are certainly reaching here to find fault. The less freshmen that have to play the better

Re: Coach Nix said the real \'plum\' of the class was

Find fault? Surely you jest.
Usually a coach can name half dozen players in 2 secs who they think will push if they're ready. Heck, I can do that. Grant, Scott, Newberry, Pena, Ball, Moore.
My comment is about the seemingly oxymoronic statement of an excellent class, but only 1 or 2 COULD play early. It may mean 'excellent' much later on, which he also could've said.
Perhaps u are the one reaching to find fault with an informational post of a direct quote from a GT Coach not found anywhere else. And "you're welcome" that I shared this live interview with u.

Aw shucks, I thought this was an information posting forum & did not realize it was a 'nailing' contest. Darn, can I have a 'do over' as I didn't even try?
PS: Have got a coupla good articles to post in the morning so those that want should bring their 'nails' tomorrow.

Re: Coach Nix said the real \'plum\' of the class was

Ace name one good team last year who started over 2 true freshmen...

Re: Coach Nix said the real \'plum\' of the class was

Ramblin-no one's talking about starting, just simply play time on the field. Tech had 5 last season that did not rs. But to answer your ?, Virginia jumps out at u as Virginia had 15 Fr get play time & more than 2 start. Virginia truly had an excellent recruiting class come in.
Simply an abstract thought, that a statement of an 'excellent class' is immediately followed up by sputtering about who may have an early chance. Obviously, Nix was not ready for that ?, but that certainly is a ? most Tech fans are asking, so he could've spouted 5-6 names in hurry. Perhaps some don't have questions come to mind like I do.

Re: Coach Nix said the real \'plum\' of the class was

Or maybe he doesn't want his opinions to come bach to bite him? The way people bring back off the cuff comments and try to make federal cases out of them theses days is something else. To your original point Ace, I hope none of our frosh have to play. I hope our upperclassmen don't need the help. Realistically I would expect to see some of the DBs and DLs get playing time, maybe somebodyh at LB or FB? Grant may as well. And of course a QB might. But Nix may have been thinking of the impact on current players of sounding like we need immediate help.

Re: Coach Nix said the real \'plum\' of the class was

Lets not be so friggin hasty to break out a lynch mob and take comments out of context. I mean really, how many time have some of you been asked a question and you just respond with what comes to the top of your head?
