Coach Nix unhappy with the b/u QBs??

It just grabs me that the OC, Coach Nix, is not peaceful about the QB situation. RSo Bennett, rSo Manley, rFr Garner & entering Frosh Ingram are not making the YJ boat float. I come to this conclusion not because GT is recruiting a talent like HS Sr Josh Nesbitt, but mainly because Coach Nix recruited Auburn transfer Calvin Booker, who'll have to sit out his rSo yr & be eligible as a rJr, the same as Bennett & Manley.
This appears to be quite a clog of Jr QBs & wouldn't necessarily get Coach Nix promising full & complete competition for Booker unless Nix thought Booker could win the job. Funny, but I think Calvin Booker will take over for GT @ QB when R.Ball is finished.
Calvin Booker could easily be the most important recruit coming to GT in '06, much as Choice was last yr. Here's an excellent interview with Booker from Scout.com. In it Calvin only speaks about talking with Coach N.

Calvin Booker on why he chose Ga Tech

Important note:

The GT coaches did not recruit Calvin Booker this year. He contacted GT about any interest and open scholarships. The coaches told him we could not give him a scholarship but he was free to walk-on and fill the 105 man roster. They then gave him the same promise they give all walk-on's...win a starting job and get a scholarship.

Booker was not brought in because of any disappointment they may have with the QB situation in general. However, they are not thrilled with the current QB situation overall...but Booker is not seen as a fix of any kind at this point.

Ace: I hope your're right. If Nix is unhappy with the quarterbacks performance....including Reggie Ball....then the demands should be clear and better results expected.

I'm hopeful Jonathan Garner can win the spot in '07.... unless Booker can pull it out. I just don't have any confidence in Taylor Bennett at this moment.

Once again, we're reading things into actions other people take with absolutely nothing to go on. We recruited the kid out of HS. He wasn't happy at Auburn and contacted Tech to ask about transfering. We don't have to use a scholarship to get another athlete into school. Whether he will even play QB when/if he gets on the field remains to be seen.

But Nix DID NOT recruit him to transfer.

Hivered is correct. Booker was the one that contacted us. He will be on a hope scholarship. I had some correspondence with his neighbor and his family wanted him to be a Tech. He is a good student and felt this was the best place for him.

Given that they haven't been able to beat out a guy with a TD/INT under one, a completion percentage under 50%, and a passer rating under 100 I'd hope he isn't happy with them.

I don't know if it's recruiting, development, or both but this is a major area of concern.

Everybody understands

that Booker contacted GT, as it would be against the rules for GT to contact Booker /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/2orglaugh.gif. Much the same way it would be against the rules to play ineligible players /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif. There is no debate as to who contacted who in the 1st place.
Now, u may not call these actions recruiting, but the point this piece is making is that promises were made, by both sides, of what would happen if these circumstances actually came about. It appears that these circumstances are coming about &, hopefully, everyone will live up to their end of the bargaining. Most folks watching scholarship college football players transfer to a different school call this recruiting, but u may choose not to. U may also think that when the GT coaches found out Tashard Choice wanted to transfer that they didn't do everything possible to help him do so & to regain his eligibility for '05 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif.
The question that enters my mind is that this presents a possible clog of rJr QBs, so I ask myself, why? The answer that jumps back at me is that Nix is not pleased with what he is looking at to make a run for the QB position in '07.
Anyway, it was a very good item & got everybody thinking, huh? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

The question you should really ask is...

why not? We have a hyped-up HS QB wanting to transfer to GT, we don't have to use a scholly on him, and, we can take a chance on a guy who might be better than the other QB's we have.

Seriously...why not? If Calvin Booker contacted GT's coaches, why would they tell him they didn't want him to transfer? What is 1 reason for that?

We are not idiots. We understand the difference between players you encourage to transfer and those that just happen. Upon contact, we encouraged Choice, Levens, Poree and a couple others I can think of.

We did not encourage Booker after he made contact. It just happened.

The coaches are glad to have a kid with his character, from Atlanta, etc...but this was not a Choice, Levens, Poree situation.

Re: The question you should really ask is...

Yeah, what BeerNutts said.

Hey, atlantapanther, you should post twice today and see what happens. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

AJ SUggs Part Deux, or...

John Dewberry Part Deux?

The one-liners don't work here.

Re: AJ SUggs Part Deux, or...

Apparently not because I don't get your point...the only thing I know about John Dewberry is that he is loaded.

You don\'t know about Dewberry as a GT player....

or how he transfered in from UGA? Or how well he played?

Well, you can't argue with someone who doesn't know what you're talking about. Just by mentioning a transfer QB who didn't work out so well doesn't mean every QB transfer won't work out well. Dewberry transferred and it worked out great. I'm embarassed I had to explain this to you :(

Re: You don\'t know about Dewberry as a GT player....

Maybe I'm getting my Dewberry's confused, you're probably a hell of a lot older than me. That's why I asked..you don't have to belittle me!

Re: You don\'t know about Dewberry as a GT player....

You haven't got your John Dewberry's mixed up. The Tech quarterback and the 'loaded' one are one and the same.

Well, I\'m not that old...

I turn 30 next week. Am I a "a hell of a lot older" than you?

Sorry for belittling, but I just would expect most GT fans to knowing who Dewberry is, even some young ones. I guess I got a little defensive by you trying to make a point by stating how one transfer failed must mean all transfers fail.

Re: Well, I\'m not that old...

BNuttz, Thanks for reminding me that Dewberry was a UGag transfer. I had forgotten that. Again thanks.

Re: Well, I\'m not that old...

I wasn't "raised" on GT football so my knowledge only goes back so far, I was really just curious because I've heard his name on these message boards before and never knew why.

Question though, how many (and who) QB's transfer out of a top-tier football program because they're never going to play, and go to another solid, national team and turn out to be a success? Nate Hybyl and Brock Berlin are all I can think of.
