Coach Paul Johnson's Georgia Tech losses, ranked #48 to #1

I guess it depends on what your ranking criteria is, but for me the Kansas loss is pretty low. That year the whole ACC sucked except for VT. That was easily Richt's worst UGA team. We could have kept them from being bowl eligible. The loss to Air Force in the bowl was just pathetic.

The Air Force game was lost essentially on one drive. Tech literally committed turnovers from end zone to end zone. Tevin fumbled inside their 5, defense stopped them. Backup punt returner fumbled punt, defense stopped them. Backup punt returner fumbled punt AGAIN, defense finally didn't stop them. That was Air Force's only TD.

16. 2012 Miami, 36-42
I don't know exactly how I would order it, but for me this one belongs in the top five, easily. When I think of traumatizing losses, this is the first one that comes to mind. There's no reason for it, there were plenty of awful losses that year, though this one sort of began the spiral. Each time it comes up, I try to put this game into words but it never seems adequate. If you visualize losses as physical wounds, this was being shot in the chest and then having the bullethole penetrated repeatedly by Cubans and thugs.

I completely agree with you. this is a game that probably was underrated for me. I guess the only reasoning for it being so low would be that it wasn't a huge game when it was all said and done. but certainly could make a case for being lower

I'm kinda bummed reading this thread. Think I'm gonna go back to the best wins thread. That made me feel better.

Yeah, you've probably got it right honestly, the subsequent collapse kind of obscures how awful that loss was. Plus, like you mentioned, there are other games which actually had a lot riding on them, most of your top 15 fits that bill. It shouldn't still bother me like it does, but it's been five years and I still can't forget how disturbing that loss was.

Another thing that explains it's position is that I polished off a bottle of jack during the game with my cousin, and I was drunk as shit during overtime. had I been sober this game would be Much higher.

Same boat. At that point I rarely ever drank much before games but I was completely smashed. Now I just wish I had been drunk enough to blackout around halftime. I think it had a sort of numbing effect because I remember very little of the MTSU loss, it was like getting a concussion a week after taking a bullet to the dick.

I stopped drinking before and during games for the most part. typically will only drink if it's a night game and I have all day to party. otherwise the grumpier and older I've gotten I enjoy just driving up and watching, especially for nooners, and head back to Athens to party

this season though I have a few ideas for pregame shenanigans. I'll have to fill you in eventually

I'm your huckleberry. And yeah, I have also been leaning more towards a game buzz which does not result in a horrific hangover. Or me not even making it to the stadium. Though that was just one time.

I've been trying to think of other losses that almost felt like that Miami game, for some reason. The ones that came to mind were both in 2002, Maryland and Georgia, though they're obviously outside CPJ's tenure. I think Maryland was really the first time I had watched us get straight up manhandled that way and it was super depressing. Then watching Georgia do the same thing x100 was traumatic as öööö. I was only like 15 Richt goddamn.

Another note to that NCST loss was their middle linebacker who tackled everyone on every down all game long.

The most embarrassing loss was the MidTnSt debacle which ranks near top in last 50 yrs that I've watched.
The 09 uga game probably hurt the worst.
After that ANY uga game.
The vt game '12? up there when we let them go 82 yds in 57 seconds or something after getting up.

No shit. We were up 13 or so with 9 minutes left or something like that.

Good list and know it took you some time to put together. Everyone has different perspectives so not dssing yours but what I hate the most is losing to UGA, games we should have won, and getting blown out. For example, I didn't take hard the losses to Thug and Pitt last year because we played ok we just lost. Thug game, I left thinking we aren't bad and we moved the ball but you are going to lose when you give up defensive TD's on consecutive plays. Pitt game was bad luck. That last TD should have been a TD for us. So my view was let it go.

I can take the looses to FSU where they were better but we played them tough.

Worst top 10
1. UGA 2009 - Listening to the dawg fans after that game was disgusting. What a let down
2. UGA 2013 - we lost a good lead but still had the ball and last chance in official time in UGA territory. What more could you want? We didn't make one big play we needed.
3. Miami 36-42 in 2012. That game really irritated me. Tevin messes up the ot play by clearly running a play neither offensive linemen was running. Didn't we score like 36 straight in that game and loss? It was a big game too that set the tone for the season.
4. Iowa 14-24. It was the Orange Bowl and a big game and we should not have been over matched. Disappointing.
5. Kansas - ok embarassing but we weren't very good that year.
6. VT 2012 lost in OT 17-20. Had game and let them have it. TW great drive and then interception. Summed up his career.
7. VT 2011 26-37 - what a dumb penalty by #45. Cost us the game and this was a big game. We could have potentially gone to ACC championship with a W.
8. Air Force 7-14. I hate it when we won't even play.
9. Clemson 2015 - I don't like getting blown out like that. At least in 2016 we tried. The 2015 game could have been much much worse.
10. 2015 UNC - blew this one. I love DJ White but gawd you had the game in your hands and dropped it.

We were 7-2 going into that game. Could have been a very good season.

This is a good list. I think/hope that 09 Georgia game will stay at/near the very top of these lists until I'm dead. But you've got the Miami game close to where I'd have it. It really was that bad, somehow worse than losing to VPI by a single punch.
