Coker was not the problem at UM. Any University that suspends their players for 1 game for brawling, openly embraces them, and shows little to no remorse, has bigger problems than the head coach. He was 59-15 in 6 years, won 1 NC and played for another. I think the people in coral gables need to realize that their program has not just all of a sudden fell apart, it's due to the fact that they are in a much stronger conference now. Not defending Coker at all, but I just think they have much bigger problems down there, and firing him was not the solution. THWG!!!

They have a lot of talent returning next year, and that will be to Coker's credit, not whoever comes in next season.

Coker's not the problem but the length of suspensions are?

The problem, much like FSU, has been a genearlly poor offense with even worse QB play.

So Coker just all of sudden doesn't know how to coach then? They were #3 in the nation last year when we beat them, and everyone loved Kyle Wright. You can't blame the QB play on Coker. All I was saying is that UM can no longer expect to have 11- 13 wins a year, not in this conference. Firing a coach for having one bad year is just dumb. They took the easy way out to try to show their fans and alumni that they are taking steps to improve the program. Why not have some ball$ and punish PLAYERS who screw up. I agree with Gnats, this is a very young team, and their talent is great for next year.

Miami fans have unrealistic expectations since leaving the Big East. Before they could write their ticket to the NC game solely because the Big East was a cake walk. Now they are in a tougher conference and it shows.

That said, for anyone to not recognize that Miami has major issues at coaching is absurd. You don't have the problems they've had this year without having major discipline issues. It starts and stops with the man in charge.

From what it sounds like their AD is the "man" in charge. She seemed to be calling all of the PR shots. I am not a UM buff, but just sounds like Coker was cut from admin. decisions a while ago.

Since when is the coach not responsible for the play of the offense? Even at #3 last year they weren't playing particularly well on offense. I don't know what has changed since his first 2 years other than a serious downgrade in talent.

Regardless coaching has a lot more to do with thier problems than the length of the suspensions....

Coker = good man + UM = very bad program = good man takes the shaft.

It's all good though. There's not a thing Coker could've done to make that program any better. They're an embarrassment to the ACC and will be until they get somebody, like Curry for example, in there with the fortitude to clean up their mess.

I'll just bet Butch Davis is glad to have a job already.

I don't have any sympathy for Coker. He sacked his entire assistant coaching staff after last year's Peach Bowl. They all ended up at 'Ole Miss. He sure didn't have a problem doing it to save his own arse.

They were the game coaches not him. So to say he has forgotten how to coach is way out in left field.

Coker was like a man with his head in the sand. The brawls, the minimal discipline, the off season player issues...

Good point.
I guess the new guys he hired are all pretty happy at the moment!:ugh:

Firing Coker now could open the door for some recruits to change their mind. Is there anybody in their class we would consider if he first showed interest in GT?

I would have to think DC Randy Shannon will get picked up quickly....if not stay. He did a great job this year.

Chatt Times Free Press reported this morning that Shalala announced a 3 million dollar competitive edge capital campaign during the Coker announcement. It was a wide open "I did what you wanted-now pay up" to the alumni.

Who does that? I have no respect.

Just remember, Coker is just as guilty as Shalalalala, Dee and the ACC office in the "brawl-gate" aftermath.

You have to feel like he knew if he came down harder on the players involved (like Strock did at FIU), he had no chance to save his job. Instead, he choose "go along" with the others. He sold his soul to the devil and got burned.
