Shifting gears to some positive TechTalk for a second, WR Stephen Hill put on quite a show again on Monday, making a couple of long catches and even snagging another rapid-fire pass from Josh Nesbitt as a defender committed the worst passing interference I've ever seen ... OK, maybe not the worst, but the corner checked Hill right off the line of scrimmage, and as the receiver ran a cross route, he grabbed his body once more for good measure as the ball was rifled into Hill's hands. Really, good catch.
I got a chance to catch up with receivers coach Buzz Preston after practice, and I hope to have a story on his thoughts on Hill in the coming days. As you may expect, he's excited about him, but his excitement level is on the same plane for each of his receivers. Coach Preston doesn't like to shower more praise on one player over the others very often.
On the defensive side of the ball, Anthony Egbuniwe had a nice pass deflection at the line of scrimmage during the day's final 7-on-7, and he followed that up with a "sack" on Nesbitt. As head coach Paul Johnson delicately informed his players earlier in the workout, he didn't want any tackles to be made. No need to risk any injuries, and no need to tire the players out any more than they already were. So the sack on Nesbitt was more like Egbuniwe breaking past offensive tackle Nick Claytor and tapping Nesbitt's legs before the quarterback could even finish dropping back.
Defensive end Derrick Morgan had another tip on a pass, as well.
Backup B-back Richard Watson also got a ton of snaps during the morning workout. Forgot to ask Coach Johnson about that, but we'll see what more Richard does tomorrow.
