Just speculation, let's say that Oklahoma loses to Baylor this weekend (which is possible, Baylor is a good time with a scrappy young QB), and both GT and Vatech win big this weekend, do you guys think there's any chance they'll veto college gameday and come to Atlanta? I know they don't do it very often, but I remember them doing it a few times. I know the Red River Shootout game is a huge deal, but I remember back in 2005, Texas went up by a few scores midway through the second quarter, and ABC cut to another game. I don't think it will happen, but maybe if the planets align just right it has a shot.

Thoughts?-Don't flame me for being hopeful.

Robert Griffin, Baylor's QB, is out for the season with an injury. No dice, my friend.

Texas and OU is too big of a rivalry. They won't do that. Also we rank below Big 12 on ESPN's list of conferences they care about. I think we are 5/6.

ESPN's list of conferences they care about:
1. SEC
2. Big 12
3. Big 10 (b/c of Ohio State)
4. Pac 10 (b/c of USCw)
5. ACC
6. Big East

Oh hell, I missed that one, nevermind. Shame, hopefully he gets a medical redshirt, he's fun to watch.

I know that's a huge rivalry, but I was hopeful, remembering that ABC cut off coverage of the game in 05.

Oh well, thanks for the comments fellas.

I am very hopeful this will happen. The game will be a "night" game. Tech has a very interesting homecoming traditions that the producers at ESPN may try to work into the gameday broadcast. The game will also have very important ACC championship implications if both Tech and va tech win. If the red river rivalry does not look like a competitive game this year, the game would be very tempting to use for Gameday.

I don't think they will because of the 6 O'Clock game time, but I can see it happening. They were at Texas/OU last season, and it's not as big of a game this year. If we hadn't been demolished by Miami on national TV, I'd think the chance was greater. Is there any other big ticket games next weekend?

If Baylor blows out Oklahoma and Colorado blows out Texas and GT blows out FSU and VT blows out BC... none of which will probably happen...

And that puts GT in front of OK and VT in front of Texas in the polls...

It still probably won't happen. But we would have a chance.

VT could get as high as #3 and GT could sneak up to #15 and despite the fact that its an ACC game that could be more appealing than a #11 Texas against an unranked Oklahoma.

But don't hold your breath.

My thoughts?

A VPI win will most likely bring them up to #4, since #1 UF and #4 LSU play each other this weekend and someone must lose.

A Tech win will most likely bring us up to #19 tops. Too many of the teams that are ranked immediately in front of us (15-21) are playing unranked teams, although I see #17 Auburn losing to unranked Arkansas, and #20 Ole Miss losing to #3 Alabama.

So, best case scenario, next week's 6 PM game will be #4 vs. #19.

The Red River Rivalry game will feature a potential #1 in Texas (if UF loses this week) vs. a #18ish Oklahoma.

Bottom line: Our only hope of getting Gameday here is that Oklahoma loses with Sam Bradford, which would knock them out of the top 25 altogether. Even then, ESPN would still probably choose their game over ours. Not to mention a nice backup of USC/ND that weekend as well.:sad01:

The only chance Gameday comes to Atlanta is if OK gets shutout by Baylor, Texas loses to Colorado, Colt McCoy gets a season ending injury, Tech beats FSU by 50, VP beats BC by 55, and the state of Texas is quarantined due to swine flu.

Well, maybe not, but OU and UT must lose and GT and VP must win.

EDIT: Gameday is bad luck

yeah highly unlikely. Texas and OU is like Florida/UGA. Even if one team sucks, it's just the name of the matchup that draws the attention.

I'm happy with ESPN2. People w/ cable can still watch it

There is no chance in hell game day would be anywhere but there. This is their last chance to shower McCoy and Bradford with their love.

Where on campus would they do it? Yellow Jacket Park is gone. Burger bowl is all the way across campus. Tech Tower lawn is too small and usually taken on game day.

So, the issue might not be if ESPN wants to come but where would the go if they did?

In the stadium I think.

Wait, yellow jacket park is gone? I havent been to central campus (outside of some rockin Juniors chicken fingers before Clemson) in a year or two. Granted the damn thing was a swamp for weeks after a light drizzle but that was pretty area.

Construction for the Clough Undergraduate Learning Center has taken up all of Yellow Jacket Park east of Atlantic.

No way. Maybe 5th St bridge, maybe the Burger Bowl, or maybe the lawn in front of the IC. They could also do it on Rose Bowl Field (the practice field behind the left field wall of Russ Chandler).
