we have landed a commitment from (gasp, shock, whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?) a good ole georgia boy!

Gary Guyton, 215 lbs, 6'3 - 6'4. plays LB, also played some DE in HS. also a 2 sport star. starter in bball as well. from Bradwell Institute in Hinesville.

some googling results:

seems like Gary Guyton got the Naismith award in basketball and made it to a preseason all region team in his level

Link: Naismith award .. scroll down

also found an article about his high school baseketball coach lamenting that his starter Gary is out playing football instead

Link: basketball coach misses starter

is he going to be a 2 sport star?

found a lil bit of info of him playing defense in a football game and his high school capitalizing on a fumble recovery made by him

Link: fumble recovery by gary mentioned in his school's win

go jackets!

Also had offers from Duke, Vandy, and Louisville. Didn't use to see these folks on the recruiting trail. Also, didn't use to see our preseason conference ranking at the 8 spot. Got to keep the faith,....but man this is getting difficult.

GATA JACKETS!!!!

Hey Driver...why did you fail to mention USC? Perhaps you post doesn't look as morbid if you tell everyone he got an offer from Holtz and company. Last I checked Lou was a damn good defensive coach. Glass is half empty for way too many Tech fans. It makes me sick

Driver,

Why did you leave South Carolina out of your post? Just curious.

Kid looks like a good prospect to me. Sounds like he is very athletic with good range.

Two things:

1)I agree he does look like a great prospect. I would like to know his speed. Could he actually be a stud free safety with that height and weight? Assuming he could put on about 10 pounds of muscle on that fram... look out!

2)Holtz recruiting people for USC in 2003 is no where like Holtz recruting folks for ND in the hey day. However, I agree it is a great compliment that Holtz was recruiting him.

Someone posted his speed was 4.4 on Hive. Not sure where that came from. He's sounds similar to size of FOX when he was in HS.

Insiders says he has 4.4 speed.

Even if that is an exaggeration and he is a 4.5 or 4.55...that is great with a rangy frame.

92 tackles and 11.5 sacks as a junior.

Probably looks like Key Fox.

Offers early from SC, Louisville, Duke, Vandy...he probably let it be known early on to recruiters he wanted great academics.

I am sorry, I have to admit it; I am not too swift, I am a liberal arts grad and slow on the uptake. One time I read the threat of Duke and Vandy whipping us and then I read that we are somehow lacking if someone considered going to them as well as going to us. Hmmm (sorry, again)
I confess that I wish that everyone we signed was offered by FSU,OKLA,OSU, and other powers; but I am not going to let my "sunken heart" throw cold water on the commitment of some young man who just might be the second coming of Dick Butkus with a high grade point average to boot. Welcome to Tech young man.....we are happy you chose us. God Speed!!!!!!!

looks good, hopefully we will keep recruiting in-state Georgia High School Football is moving near the ranks of Cali Tex and Fla, I also encourage all of you to support local high school football on Friday Nights its a wonderful experience and you will likely see a high quality of football

Some people see the glass as half empty, some see it as half full. As engineers we are taught that you have the wrong size glass, get another one.

Great job for Chan and crew. Looks like a terrific athlete. Should weigh about 255 by the time he's a senior and be two steps faster. Perfect height for a LB or with more weight DE. Maybe he'll be knocking the teeth out of some UGAg running backs soon (so they can match their toothless fans).

Techsamillion - nicely done. I got a chuckle out of that one.

And a hearty wellcome to our newest recruit - be he an eventual LB, DE or FS. Have to admit it has been a while since I saw a kid with 4.4 speed and that range of potential positions. Must be some kind of athlete - even if he was recruited by Duke and some unknown D co-ordinator named Roof.

How many early commitments did we have at this time last year?

A serious question!

How could any Tech fan be dissappointed with a 6'3" 215lb freshman Linebacker who runs the forty in 4.4, and is a two-sport athlete?

hey BoR .. quit taking words from my mouth!
the angry tech fan is *my* gig!

Hey now, be fair. If Driver8 actually had to admit something Chan did was good it would shake the very foundation of his universe!

From what I've been told, the Vandy fans are all pissed off at us 'cause we keep stealing their recruits... I say the hell with 'em!!!!

Go Get 'Em Chan !!
