Compared to Past Years- How Good is the HC Job on The Flats?

Compare now (or next year if you prefer), to 2018 and 2007, how does the GT job stack up nationally?
Related, is the job a better one now than when CPJ left? Better than post-Gailey?

Is there a case to be made that the current regime did some tough work in recruiting and putting pieces in place converting from Johnson’s offense that now makes the Tech job more desirable? Or is that line of thought just drinking the kool aid?
 
I feel the job is more desirable now than when CPJ left. I know we joke about the "greatest rebuild in history" excuse here in year 3, but the roster really was quite poor for non-option offenses in 2018, CGC's future underperformance notwithstanding. Now we have some pretty decent talent.

Ignoring current roster situation I don't think much has changed in the past three years, and unfortunately we are not nearly as good of a job as we were in 2007. The college football landscape has shifted, and not in our favor. The ACC is not as relevant as it was in the mid-2000s, the arms race has escalated a whole lot, and GT as a school is even more focused on academics than it was back then.

It's not a bad job. We're still P5, we're in a major city, and we do have history. Even some recent history! We're not Duke or Vandy. But in the the 2000s I would've said we were a top mid-tier job, now I'd say we're a lower mid-tier job, and I'd say that's down more to changes in CFB and the Institute than either CPJ or CGC.
 
The thing is, with the option you have to have a tailored small and fast offense, which goes to the O Line as well. Any passing offense can’t use that line. So I feel like the job is better for non option coaches now, but not NEAR as desirable after GOL. The thing is we still don’t have an O Line, but I feel like any good coach can either build up this line, or at least run plays tailored to them.

Agreed with this.

I think we've rehabilitated some relationships with local high schools, hands turned over a lot of the roster, and established a school/city based brand rather than being known for one play. Also, we're now setup where a quality coach can win right away rather than having a losing season or two out of the gates. Also, we've upped support staff, etc. On a whole, I think we're in a better position than we were in 2018, but way below 2007 and that's almost entirely because of the landscape changes that occurred over the past 10 years.

This is the best job in the world, because it's Georgia Tech. Now, if you want to cheat or get athletes through college without requiring the to learn how to spell their names, Tech isn't the place for you. But if you care about kids and worry how they'll be doing in ten years instead of ten minutes, well damn, there is just Georgia Tech.
 
More appealing job than when CPJ retired, less appealing than in 2007.

There is a lot of talent on this team - young, smart talent that can be coached up. GT is not a rebuild anymore, and the expectations are low for year one. That’s a solid way to make a name for yourself if you’re a coach looking to move up the food chain. Teach this team to play sound football and sky’s the limit.

And with the advancement of technology into everyday life and culture, our programs of study are now cool.
 
2018 we had a roster that needed some adjusting due to body types. 2021 we have roster that needs some adjusting due to mindset. Which is harder? I expect a lot of players to bail when a coach comes in and does what needs to be done to make us a winner instead of a clown posse. The team has been undisciplined for 3 seasons now, how many of our players will be able to adjust to having their butt chewed.
