Comparing Our Starting and Backup QBs

Tech and UGA fans spent a lot of time discussing our starting and RSFr backup qbs this year. Thought this was interesting. Suggs and Greene had about the same completion %. Interceptions really killed GT. Doubt UGA can get this kind of QB production next year with the OL losses.

Besides the TD's and INT's, the biggest difference is the yards. Greene had 700 more yards than Suggs on about the same amount of passes. That means that Greene was throwing the ball downfield more. The fact that they have about the same percentage speaks volumes. Greene was getting the ball past the markers while Suggs was throwing 7 yard hitch routes and 3rd and 10.

Interesting stats, I would not have guessed their comp percentages were that close. UGA is correct re: picks, but also look at TDs - our starting QB only had 12 - in fact, prior to the SVC, where we threw 6 int's to 1 TD, GT was 1 of only 2 schools to have more picks than TDs from their QB position.

What really made the UGA passing game effective was the run game they were able to establish. UGA hit alot of big plays when the D was in Cover 1. Clearly, Greene is a much better QB at this time than Suggs, but it would have been interesting to see what could have happened with Suggs if Hollings (and hence the GT run game) had stayed healthy. Suggs just wasn't able to shoulder the load by himself - he's not that kind of QB.
