A comparison I did.

GT08 avg ppg: 23.75
Navy07 avg ppg: 39.3

GT08 avg ppg BCS: 23.17
Navy avg ppg BCS: 35.5

12 point difference. My point is that if we can get this offense scoring as much as CPJ had navy, and you put the 12 point average on our two losses we would be undefeated. With better talent you would think we could average higher.

The question is can CPJ get tech to this average or higher, and how long will it take?

Of course he can..... and then some. We have better athlete recruitment options. IMO, we won't be able to do those numbers until PJ gets the Oline where he wants it. In order for this offense to really get firing, we will need blockers. It just has to happen.

I think next year we will def. see some improvement on that average, I think realistically 2 years from now we will be beyond that.

I agree this is all about the OLine.

I(and i think most of us) previously thought that the way to STOP our offense is by playing assignment defense. Turns out that will only slow it down. Actuall stopping the offense requires busting the play up before it starts...something that has happened all too often this year because our OL isn't the right personnel(not a knock on them, b/c I know they play their butts off)

Outside of Bebe I doubt anyone on our offense is out performing a player at the same position as someone from Navy's offense from last year (maybe Dwyer too). It's going to take time to get his guys in here and teach them to run it the way he wants.

There's no doubt in my mind if we completely swapped all our offensive players for Navy's this year, we'd be undefeated and in the running for the BCS.

We're just not there yet.

Yeah our current Oline probably would have been pretty decent in a "new age" offense. They are having to learn completely knew techniques which are hard to do because a lot of them have muscle memory from the techniques of the Gailey offense. They do play their butts off, I wish they would play like they did against MSU, I know they can do it.

A better comparison might be GT's '08 Offense vs the '02 offense of the Naval Academy.

I wonder if it might take longer to develop the OL since with Navy's rigid size limitations, he probably had larger nos. to work with right from the get go. It could take him 3 recruiting seasons to get the nos. of OL that fit the system.

Has anyone asked the OL coaches about this? demjackets?

That was my first post on here. Took forever to get my signon approved.

I guess you could say that I popped my stingtalk cherry. It felt great.

I think the comparison also relies on the assumption that Navy's 07 schedule is comparable to our '08 schedule which I think is reasonable.

However, our season is not finished yet and I think our offensive output will drop over the next four games.

But its a good analysis and think that once we get GT level talent running CPJ's offense, we will exceed Navy's '07 averages.

in two years we will be going full speed on offense with "his" players in position. Our offense will probably be going full speed in its current form within the next two games (I say this based on injuries to nesbitt) for what we are capable of.

Everything I have just said is pure speculation and opinion.

Actually, I like this comparison because it compares what should be his worst here (without *his* players), and that should have been one of his best at Navy, and we're still not far behind.

Not me. When I saw detailed analysis of the TO play and explanation of the wide gaps of the OL (contrary to older TO offenses like the wishbone), the first thing I asked is what an attacking DC like Tenuta would do.

Without exceptional play by the OL AND the QB to react well, a defense could flood those gaps to disrupt all the slow developing plays. A gambling DC is willing to risk big plays on offense in order to get the offense back on its heels and shake confidence.

Point taken. I see where you're coming from now.
