Looks like the one-game schedule (although against a mediocre Pac-10 team) worked. The strategy of only playing one game in early Sept. and one bowl game each year seems to work.
If only the ACC, Big 12, and SEC schools had it that easy.

Didn't they beat Oklahoma or somebody good in their bowl game recently?

Its not as much if you do it as it is if you could do it.

If its true of them then its true of everyone it applies to. Including us.

Let's not speak too soon. I think Nevada will give them a run for their money.

The difference is that in 90% of the SEC, ACC, Big 12 weekends you have to show up with your A game...injuries and depth end up being a big factor. When you only play one or two games per year...you can rest players, have a shaky game plan, not have complete focus...and still have time to wake up and win.

Lets put it this way...if we were in the WAC this year would you think our odds of winning the conference are better than they are this year in the ACC?

Definitely. My point was that while they might sneak into a BCS game with their light schedule, the BCS game will reveal all and if they truly are a paper tiger then they probably won't get a 2nd chance because public opinion (e.g., rankings) will be biased against them.

However, if they get into the BCS and win then they have essentially "hacked" the system. I can't fault them for that.

well...I know they can beat any team in the country on a given day. Even App St, Stanford, LA-Monroe, etc. have proved that.

It is the ability to run through a tough 11-game schedule in a BCS conference and not be allowed to have a single week off, mentally, or physically, or else you get a mark in the loss column....that is what the WAC, and to an extent the MWC, teams do not have to deal with.

I am just not a believer that bowl games indicate much as it seems most teams really do not get jacked up for their extra game.

Yep, BSU is going undefeated and will take a spot from the #2 ACC team for the BCS. The BCS was just fine when the computers were a real part of the system (and worked perfectly fine with Auburn, etc.). But the voters got upset that they didn't control who they wanted and now weak ass schedules are going to bring the BCS down.

You and I have always been on the same page since SOS was removed from the equation again.

I edited my post to say #2 ACC team for the BCS. That's what I meant.

Yes, the computers strength of schedule was incredibly important. Today, it MAY pick from two close UPI ranked teams.

Also, I probably should have included that ND has the second softest schedule in the country this year. And if they go 10-2, then they'll certainly be picked ahead of ACC #2.

p.s. After last night, I don't want to play SEC teams on ESPN any longer. The Lovefest was just sickening.
