Just one day after football officially ends and already Gailey's name is mentioned. (scroll to the bottom)

Congratulations Chan
Finally someone realizes this mans talents

Whether or not anyone is or is not a fan of Chan Gailey is beside my point. Again, I thing Sports Illustrated has risen to a new low in their pursuit to draw attention to themselves. Their article is a negative article by which no one is helped, except SI. I did write to SI earlier and explained my disgust with these type articles, and I received a reply of an appologetic nature. YUK !!!!!!! If this the best SI has to offer, why buy their product !! We don't even use SI at the "outhouse" now, it's just not good enough.

Re: Congrats to Coach Gailey...

I hear what you are saying. But, I disagree. More embarrassment has been brought on Tech by Gailey's adventures than this one small paragraph in a SI article for goodness sakes. SI has the right to have comentary articles in their mag. And it doesn't have to be complementary. The truth is the truth. I only wish that the powers in charge of the future of GT football would be given a copy of it and made to read it. I would hope that they would wake up, but I doubt it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pat.gif

Re: Re: Congrats to Coach Gailey...

Why would the "powers in charge" (or any sane person for that matter) want to waste their time reading what this moron writes?

Just to play D's advocate, the coach of a program like Rutgers or Vanderbilt would never be called "one of the worst" by this guy or anybody if their record averaged 7 wins.

Whether some want to acknowledge it or not, Ga. Tech is seen nationally as a program that should be a helluva lot better than mediocre, regardless of what our fearless athletic leader wants to tell the fan base.
It also would appear that not nearly everyone is impressed by consecutive don't wanna be here bowl invites. Again, this flies in the face of more Braine propaganda.

The way I see it, I am happy outside expectations demand more from Tech. Maybe the folks that can do something about that will get on board.

OR,....this guy has some serious personal issues with CG. I hope it's the former.

Mandel also put Joe Pa as his 5th worst coach last summer. 11-1....sounds like bad coaching to me!

Mandel must have been wronged somewhere in his life by Gailey. To say he is the worst coach to me is saying,"GT has national champion talent, but Gailey can't coach worth a darn so that is why they end up with 7 wins each year."

If he uses the reasoning that our offense stinks and we don't even utilize of the top 3 receivers in the nation...then he might have a point.

Last time I checked there has been no Bill Lewis era type debacles under CCG. We're going to bowl games winning 7 a year with a bad QB. And before any of you rip Gailey for not having a better QB over this period you need to stop and look at other programs around the nation. Every program goes through periods of bad QB play.
Look at ND over the Davies era, Tenn today as well as Maryland, NCST, FSU, Miami, Penn State w/ Zach Mills. It is what it is. If Gailey had a pure passer over the last couple of years we'd have 8-9 wins instead of 7.

And I'm sick of hearing people say it's the offensive system that we run. I don't buy it. How many times a game has Ball missed wide open receivers or not hit a guy in stride. Also last time I checked we're currently in one of the best eras in Tech history as for as wins go.

His recruiting is good, give him time to get a real QB in here with a mature line.

We're going to bowl games

Oh, what a point of pride. We're going to the worst, bottom feeder, nothing bowls there are lately..and we just got abused by a 6-5 Utah team with a back up qb in a baseball stadium bowl. But, hey we're going to bowls! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

We're going to bowls? Bowls?????? What?! We're going to consolation post season affairs which should be turned down.

This is the ACC's fault, not any of the individual schools. They need to get us into bowls, because, right now, only three members of the ACC can go to any game that can honestly call themselves a "Bowl" right now.

Right now, only VT, Miami, and FSU will ever get to go to a bowl.

Bowls - 6 of our teams should be playing Big 10, SEC, Big 12, or Pac 10 schools. Let the worst 2 play MAC, WAC, Sunbelt, Big East, MWC, Ohio Valley, etc. etc.

This Mandel creep clearly has a grudge against Gailey. He spent five years of his career in Atlanta - Coach Gailey must have done something to tick him off during that time.

maybe he sucked at dealing with the media, fans, and pr in general... good to see he solved that problem.

Look, there are only 7 teams in all of D1 football that's been to 9 consecutive bowls. I'm sorry if you call 'em toilet bowls or whatever, it's still an impressive streak and you sneering at it is ridiculous.

It used to be eight, but Tennessee dropped out - not because they were invited to a toilet bowl they didn't want to go to, but because they were not bowl eligible!

And THAT is what the streak means: there are ONLY seven teams that have had nine consecutive winning seasons. That in and of itself is an impressive figure, no matter how you piss on it.

oh come on...there are too many bowls now and that is the reason teams with so many losses are getting into all these bowls these days. If the bowl streak was an impressive list of bowls that'd be one thing, but to tout a bowl streak that includes Boise (blue turf, snow), Seattle (baseball stadium, mostly empty), and San Francisco(another baseball stadium, mostly empty...heck, even the Champs bowl was in front of a mere 28,000) with one of the bowls including a huge lopsided loss to a 6-5 team with a back up qb is ridiculous.

I like the way you think Geetee.
People are getting upset about some SI writer saying mean things about our wonderful coach. But they don't seem to be upset about the lousy job he is doing. And the bowl record is laughable. As you said, all you have to do these days is go 6-5 and the Poulan weedwhacker folks will be calling cause you're "bowl eligible'!!!! And is just where the Braine says we should expect to end up each year. Well, to me that just plain sucks.
The last two bowls were basically meaningless I don't want to be here bowls. And the way Gailey had his team prepared to play, I doubt they even practiced in pads prior. And it seems that alot of so called Tech supporters don't seem to mind when we get wiped out in a meaningless bowl in a baseball stadium with plenty of empty seats and both teams on the same side of the field. This bowl was pathetic. And for Tech not to walk in there and whip the Utes was a joke.
And Gailey standing by Ball all these years when he clearly shows that he is not Division 1 calibre is mindboggling. At least make him shut his mouth with the trashtalking during the game. Makes him look like a punk.
I don't care how many on here flame me. I am sick to damn death of this coach and his tenure at the flats. I don't hate the man personally, but I hate his product. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/FIREdevil.gif

If the bowl/winning seasons streak were indeed meaningless as you say, then there would be a list of 25 or 30 or 35 schools with the same streak. It IS an accomplishment, even if 5 of the 9 were toilet bowls.

Are there too many bowls? Hell, yes!
Is a streak of attending 9 in a row meaningless? Hell, no! Well, except to you.

I Don\'t Think Anyone ...

is comparing our bowl streak to what Dodd did in major bowls in the 50's. But just as clearly as you like to point out our offense is ranked 105th (or whatever), or our AA WR only caught 4 passes in two games, it is a statistical fact that we are one of only 7 teams to QUALIFY for a bowl game nine years in a row. You can argue that you would rather have 3 ACC championships sandwiched around 4 losing seasons if you like. But if you like to use statistics to accentuate why you don't like CCG, then get used to them being used the other way as well.

Hmmm if Gailey were so bad than why is it we've had winning records under him. Look I'm a realitivly new Tech fan. It seems that most on this board think that prior to Gailey this program was a year in year out national contender. Look at history folks, outside of a few isolated years Tech football has been mediocore.
Sure the bowl games aren't great but going 7-5 with a subpar QB ain't all that bad. 7-5 is a good base in which with better QB play would take you to 9-3. Gailey has a lot of room to improve. But as I said he's recruiting well, good depth is being built on the lines. Folks we're building a program.
