I was really glad to see them get a first win in a really long time. They beat an ECU team they were not supposed to beat.

While Roof's defense played much better than Duke defenses past, I was surprised to see Duke commit to the run as much as they did. Part of that is that they don't have an experienced QB but in the rain they shoved the ball down ECU's throat. Their last drive was a 7 or 8 minute thing of beaty that ended up with only a field goal but killed the clock and kept Roof's D off the field.

In the midst of having UNC get embarassed and Clemson and MD losing tough OOC games, it was nice to see Duke beat a top tier Conference USA team.
 
That's a good OOC win for Duke and the ACC. Glad to seem them get off to a good start.
 
BeeWare, that was a win-win situation. We have a better defensive coach and so does Duke. I think ECU may have gained only about 200 yards for the game against Roof's defense.

Roof may be better off without O'Leary.

Straight up defense by Roof's boys. There was nothing fancy (no blitzing that I remember), just good solid play. It brought back some good memories watching Ted in his soaked white shirt (steady downpour throughout the game) jumping around on the sidelines with his color-coded cards.

Duke's fullback had 109 yards rushing as ECU's defense never adjusted. I wouldn't expect the same results when they play the Jackets.
