First rumor is that Gailey and B. Schottenheimer are the favorites for the Dolphins job.

GAILEY, SON-OF-MARTY ARE THE FINS' FAVORITES
As the Miami Dolphins embark on a second round of interviews with the five finalists for their head-coaching gig, we're told that the frontrunners are Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey and Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.
Our guess? Gailey will be the preferred choice, because the head-coaching job apparently (based on the things Pete Carroll said last week) will still entail full if not total control over the football operations. Schottenheimer is simply too young and inexperienced to wield such power, with only one year as an offensive coordinator under his belt.
And we're not ruling out in any way an eventual baton-passing from Gailey to Coach Chin, whether it's in 2008, 2009, or thereafter. The table will be set in South Florida for Cowher to return, and with the absence of a salary cap for coaching staffs owner Wayne Huizenga likely can get all of the chefs to co-exist by filling their pockets with lots of cash.
Based on published reports, the five finalists are Gailey, Schottenheimer, Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin, former Falcons coach Jim Mora, and Chargers offensive coordinator Cam Cameron. Cameron is also expected to be a favorite to replace Marty Schottenheimer, if the veteran coach is dumped by the Chargers. If that happens, Marty could take Cameron's spot on the Dolphins' dance card.
Stay tuned.

Second rumor, B. Schottenheimer has pulled his name for consideration for the Dolphins job.

New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, believed to be one of the front-runners for the Miami Dolphins' head coaching vacancy, withdrew from consideration for the position on Monday, league sources told ESPN.com.

Third rumor, Jimbo Fisher's only out in his contract with FSU was to leave to take the GT HC job.

Fourth rumor, D-Rad has already had informal discussions with Fisher should the position open.

Reading the tea leaves, it looks like Gailey will get the Miami job and Fisher will be our new HC, but who knows.

I honestly think this is what is going to happen. I think CCG will announce his departure by the end of the week and CJF will be our new HC. I could be wrong but it just looks like that's how its going. If you connect the dots just as JTS did, it makes perfect sense.

Either Chan is simply not coming back, or he has zero interest in holding on to this class. At least it appears that way.

Can anyone recall the timing of the Saban hire at Miami? From a recruiting lurch at LSU standpoint, how did Nick behave? In other words, was Les Miles in place long enough to hold their class?

(I realize there is a difference between recruiting at LSU vs Tech)

why pocket? you have no idea what's going on between the coaches and the recruits. There are a number of people with Scout who are in contact with the recruits who say that the class is still very solid with a couple of possible exceptions.

It appears that if Miami does select Chan, DRad will announce Fisher as the GT HC that very second. Based on recruits' statements, most if not all of the commits will stay on board in that scenario.

No I don't. It was only a question that many may have.
If you are telling me that this class is stable, for the most part regardless of Chan's outcome, that is news I can use but you still have not answered the question. Thanks!

profootballnews.com also linked to the flight plans for Wayne Huzinga's(sp?) jet. It flew from Peachtree Dekalb to FLL today and it will fly back to Atlanta tomorrow. So, it looks like Wayne will announce Mora or Gailey tomorrow.

If it really does come down to Mora or Gailey, I am more clueless than usual.
I like the one theory that has CG taking over for a year or two until Bill Cowher recharges his battery. At that time, Chan will move to the front office.

With Mora in the mix, I sense that he or Gailey has already been ruled out.

Uh, was that an epiphany, JTS?

I heard on 790 today at lunch that the Miami owner was flying to Atlanta today to give out an offer. We just don't know who he's going to give it to yet.

List of candidates grows to five as...

Dolphins' coach search expands

Mike Shula, son of legendary coach Don Shula, Cam Cameron and Dom Capers are in the running to be head coach -- along with Jim Mora and Chan Gailey.

Looks like this decision may take another week, at least.

This is pure speculation on my part, but the fact that Cameron and Capers are now in the mix and will be interviewed, not to mention Mike Shula has already had two interviews, the second apparantly a very extensive one, leads me to believe that neither Mora nor Gailey will be getting the job.

...leads me to believe that neither Mora nor Gailey will be getting the job.

That's what I'm starting to believe also.

I cannot imagine Miami picking Mike Shula to be their next head football coach, but the more I read the more I wonder...

The Dolphins are going to wait until the Chargers situation plays out to make a decision. If Mora Jr. is their guy, the Dolphins may have to wait until the Seahawks situation plays out.

This whole thing could easily drag out another week or two.

I just can't imagine an NFL team hiring a guy that just got fired from a college job.

Reported late this afternoon that Marty Schottenheimer is staying at San Diego. Holmgren could indeed hold things up in Seattle. I'd have to guess he will stay, but who knows.

So in review,

Schottenheimer is staying

Camerson (Chargers OC) interviewed today.

If Gailey or Cameron is their first choice, we should hear something tomorrow.

If Mora Jr. is the first choice, then we may have to wait until Holmgren in Seatle decides what he wants to do.

Morgan Burnett is quoted in the AJC as saying Gailey told him that things could be resolved by Thursday.

From Gailey's quote, I'm guessing it will be resolved tomorrow. He hasn't been on the record yet about a timetable, so I trust him with this remark.

Per Pasquarelli, Gailey has stipulations in his contract that give him a limited window to seek an NFL position and the deadline is imminent.

Anybody know if this is accurate and if so is Thursday the deadline?
