Corso said that the \'speed\' states are

1)California, 2)Texas & 3)Florida & that he counts up the number of players from these states to see who may be the faster team. He gave 2 examples: Iowa St has like 30 players from Cal, Tex & Fla whereas Nebraska has 6. Says he knew Io St was much faster. Louisville has 24 players from Fla & that's the main reason they've risen to the top of ConUSA & can play with FSU. The teams with the speed guys are the ones making it to the top even if only for a year or so. He made these quotes live on 790am this morning. Ga is known as the 4th speed state, but I said that, not Corso.
The reason it got my attention is twofold a)we are recruiting Tex much heavier than ever before, getting great reception from the HS coaches, players & it is paying off (Dixon, Honeycutt, Daniels, Bridges, McGuire & Sampson) & Cal (Bowers-Wilkerson, Parker) & our early committments are Tx QB, Tx OL & Fla DE. b) GT never seems to get as many Fla blue chip players as we should. We do have 11 Fla guys on 'ship, but only 2 were blue-chip. The speed there is great (Glover, Curry), but those are only 2 skill players we have from Fla. The other 9 are linemen & FB Jackson. Why don't we do even better in Fla?
I'm personally glad to see us not hitting SCar, NCar, Ala, Miss or Tenn hard as there is not much speed there (& hard to get away from big state U) & it's hard to get qualified guys from there. I love that we're hitting Texas, Fla & Cal hard as there is speed there & qualified players. We need to be in FLORIDA much more & much harder than we are.

Re: Corso said that the \'speed\' states are

Another state that we've recruiting now more than the past with success is Mississippi, which has a lot of talent and speed.

Some people don't agree, but know we are recruiting GA hard. Was glad to also hear Coach Wilson say at lunch brunch about coaches recruiting FL. He mentioned the Tampa area spacifically. This area is always loaded!

Master B would know, but the QB we have a verbal from is from the San Antonio TX area. It's not in San Antonio, but just north. That's a hot bed! Al Pena is from Leander TX.

Interesting about what Corso says the major speed area's are. Speed is everywhere though. Some places more than others it seems. I don't disagree with Corso and your points at all! Guys like Davis and I Perfection came from up the north east coast. Guys like Hollings, Hester, and Houston came from GA. Bridges is from TX. Curry and Glover are from FL. Cox is from Chicago IL, while Green is from MD. Mention these guys because they are the really super speed guys on our team. I'm thankful we have a lot of them!

Re: Corso said that the \'speed\' states are

Correct about the speed being everywhere, but there are 'hotbeds'. Fla is loaded, as every yr, with speed guys & I think we need 3-4 'speed' guys from this state every yr, rather than 2 total on our roster. Bilbo is only recruit from Miss in at least a dozen yrs. Tough to get qualified players from this state & not worth the time (unless you're passing thru on the way to Texas). Louisiana is also a state we should continue with as we have gotten VERY good players from there recently. If you hit Tex, Fla, Ga & La very hard, you'll get enough players & the speed to contend for ACC every yr. These states are really all you need.

Re: Corso said that the \'speed\' states are

Right on about Florida. Miami seems to be getting the lions share of the talent these days, but remember one thing:

Florida is a BIG state. Tampa and Miami are not the only hotbeds of great talent. There is some pretty good talent here in the Panhandle as well!! C'mon on down to the panhandle....home of Emmitt Smith....and MANY more.

Re: Corso said that the \'speed\' states are

I agree that we can work on getting more speed guys out of those areas. We've recruited FL hard! I listed a few guys that are speedy, but didn't list the line dudes that are speedy as well. Here is a list of all the guys on our roster from FL. In this group are some good speed guys that play on line. Again I agree that we can hunt and find more speed in the state of FL because as you say, they are LOADED year after year! That goes for CA and TX as well. AHHH you brought up LA too :-): Dorsey, Gathers, Watkins, ACE, and Henderson.

Florida:

Omar Billy.. Fast
Beau Cleland
Nate Curry... Fast
Dan Dyke
Jay Forester (walk-one)
Vinice Gilliam...Fast
Will Glover....Fast
Clay Hartley
Tony Hargove....Fast
Eddie Ivery... Not sure
Johnathan Jackson...Fast
LeRon Lee
Casey Loesch
Jonathan Jackson...Fast
Chirod Williams
Fred Wright

Again, I agree that we should hunt and find speed guys out of FL.

Out of Mississippi:
Kingi McNair...Fast
Damarius Bilbo...Fast

Your point on the "hot beds" is well taken. Let's hunt'm down and find the speed in those areas because they are there!

BTW, where do you find this info on the web, GTACE? I really appreciate it. You're exceptional at finding the hidden stones of good info.

Go Jackets!

Re: Corso said that the \'speed\' states are

JacketFanPCB, you could go out recruiting for GT in the 'handle if the NCAA would allow it. SHOOT. Oh well. I guess it's best for your family if you don't anyway.

Re: Corso said that the \'speed\' states are

There are a BUNCH of folks trying to recruit Florida. The one that most comes to mind is NCSU. Look at what Amato has done with his connections there.

I didn't know about Louisville and others who have made signficant inroads.

I too would love to see us hit Florida really hard and have success. But I think we may have just as much success in TX - and Louisiania and Missippi. Nobody has mentioned the success we have had in LA but Watkins and Dorsey are KEY to what we have done so far.

Unfortunantly we are required to recruit on a much broader basis than most schools we compete against. We will have to have a base in GA but will never be able to count on our home state for the bulk of our recruits. I am looking forward to seeing how this pans out over the next several months.

Re: Corso said that the \'speed\' states are

Any state where it is warm year-round will in general have the better athletes. If you can play sports year round, you'll be better.

While the points in this thread are very accurate, I have to say one thing. Corso is an idiot. He's a fool, and his analysis of football is just ridiculous. He simply says whatever he has to to get the ratings. And he's VERY good at that.

Re: Corso said that the \'speed\' states are

Terrific, I enjoy your posts tremendously. One minor correction in your Florida list:

I'm sure you meant to list LeRon Lee of Fort Pierce, Florida instead of (my cousin),
Brian Lee, who is from Florence, Alabama.

Keep those interesting posts "acoming".

Re: Corso said that the \'speed\' states are

'million,
Thanks for the correction! Changed it above.

Re: Corso said that the \'speed\' states are

GTT, you need to scratch A Malone off your list also as he is an Ala guy.
I may only listen to radio 30 mins a day & the regular guys NEVER add anything, but guests almost always bring something to the table that interests me i.e. Corso's 'speed states'.
Try to hit a different board every nite or 2 to see what interests them & almost always find a nugget. The next nite I'll hit a different bd. Each time I post I try to avoid straight opinion & actually 'bring' something to the board that may or may not interest others. 1.5 yrs ago I TRIED to make myself a better poster.

Re: Corso said that the \'speed\' states are

Thanks ACE! Enjoy your "nuggets"!
