I dont understand why we all redshirted all 3 freshman lineman. I really wish we would have now. I realize he wants to build for the future. But we need help there. Also why Lucas Cox plays as much as he does at a back. We never run to him and teams have figured that out now. I still love PJ though. Im amazed were at 6 and 2 with how bad our o line is. We jus have to be patient. Our offense is going to be great in the future.

I understand why he wanted them redshirted before the year started. Same with Marcus Wright. But when we needed depth we played Marcus. Why not play some of the O lineman.

Because, bottom-line, this is not an ACC championship caliber team, and the addition of one or two freshman linemen midway through the season just wouldn't have changed that. Now that we've seen what this team has managed to do, if you gave him the option to go back before the season and not redshirt one or more of them, he might do that. But right now, it's just not worth it.

As for Marcus Wright, I'm not really sure why we did that either. Maybe someone else can explain.

Yeah i agree with you. But what confuses me is why pull Marcus Wrights redshirt? If you pull him why not the lineman?

Um are you paying attention?
Go back and look at the highlights of every big run this season.

Guess who's the lead blocker on the kickout.

Any touches he gets are gravy; Luke is a great part of this scheme.

He pulled Wright's redshirt because our numbers at the A Back position were getting to a point where he felt like we needed another body just in case of another injury.

In the case of the linemen, I am sure if he felt any of the 3 could play better than what we have now, he would pull their redshirt. Uzzi is still hobbled with an ankle injury and McRae and Smith apparently did not prove anything in the fall camp or so far on the scout team.

Hindsight is 20/20 and if he had to do it over again, he might have put more empasis on speeding up the development of McRae and Smith and worked them in some how. Uzzi is still walking with a noticable limp.

Our situation is what it is. We are probably getting more out of this group than most could have reasonably expected. I think Johnson is making lemonade out of lemons for the most part.

Go Jackets!

It is true tho that having one A back who primarily runs and one who primarily blocks gives a lot of hints to the D about where the ball is going and who will get it. It also means that the safety should have cover responsibility for Roddy while a LB can cover Cox. Cox won't be running any "go" routes.

PJ redshirted 90% of his freshman class the first year at GSU, then the next thee years he went back to back to back national championships. I think he knows a little bit more about football than 90% of the people on this forum.

I guess you mean trips to the game?

+1. We do not get paid to coach football, so I will trust PJ to know what he is doing and why. We are second guessing, but hell, if someone second guessed me and my decisions, I think I would have a firebuzzmd.com website up and thriving.

Sorry but this post is just dumb. Very few true freshman offensive linemen can play D-1 ball. I'll bet 95% cross the country are RSs so they can get stronger and learn the college game. Marcus's RS was pulled simply because of numbers. Plus he's a back, which is one of the easier positions for freshmen to contribute from. Neither has any bearing on the outcome of this season.

I'm more than happy that our O linemen are being redshirted. I wish every incoming freshman could be redshirted. This team needs depth --along with overall better team speed-- in order to compete year in and year out for ACC titles and BCS bowl games.

As nc alluded to, it's easier for a freshman RB to contribute than it is an OL-man. Plus, there will pretty much always be talented RB's coming up through the HS ranks who can, again, come in and contribute. Your team strength is built up when you can go two-deep on both the O and D lines.

Plus depth allows for when your senior-most DB is sidelined with an injury and affords you the opportunity to plug someone into the starting lineup other than a true freshman --as was the (exploited) case yesterday.

You think it's only 90%? I'd venture a guess that it's more like 100%.

Perhaps, but I didnt want to offend refrigerator mover or other alums and him show up at my house and pound me. :)

I'd say that he knows more about football than anyone on this forum, save former coaches and NFL legends. A brief perusal of the board topics indicates that stingtalk's membership is not 10% former coaches and NFL legends. Even then, I believe PJ knows more about coaching than most of even that group.

Sorry but the fact that they will improve is not the determining factor. If they are already better than the incumbent then they should be playing and I bet McRae would be a big improvement at center.

Reid and Taylor did not redshirt and have seen a lot of action, as has Peeples and Melton.

Why them and not the OL?

Simple...they add to the team right now. The OL being redshirted need time.

Uzzi was the only real contender and he's has injury problems.
