1. We had our butts handed to us last night in a BIG way! I never saw us get a good push on either side of the LOS. Very disappopinted to see us get man handled, but it happened. Sure hope our OL coach shows the OL what the 5 man sled looks like tomorrow in practice or either let the next group play.

2. TB has to quit playing nervous. He needs to relax and let the ball fly like he did last year in the Gator Bowl. I see him throwing off his back foot which is not a good sign. In no way am I ready to tank him, but I think we should give some reps to the back-up if it does not improve.

3. I HATE going to Charlottesville!!

4. We had a prime opportunity last night to make a HUGE statement on a big stage and we didn't get it done. I have said it before and I will say it again, that is the responsibility of the head coach. We just did not look ready to play football last night. Then I read the comment from Gailey saying he didn't realize that Ryan was that good. I really really hope that is not the case. Because if he was not sure of his talent then Houston we have a problem.

5. I think we can beat UVA. If we do when Clemson comes to town we will have another opportunity on another big stage. It's time to put up or shut up.

We were whipped physically on the LOS...

that is very disturbing as this is an experienced group on both sides of the ball. I was more tolerant of this, especially our o-line 2-3 yrs ago when they were FR. and So. but they were dominated last night. Makes me wonder about our ability to recruit/evaluate talent when jrs. and srs. are getting handled like this. My hats are off to BC, they just kicked butt all night long. With that said, it would be nice to regroup and get a win in C'ville Sat.

I had faith on Friday that this team was one that could rise over the Charlottesville curse, but now I'd call the game 50/50 at best.

50/50? You have to be kidding me. UVA is one step above ND.

1990 dude. 17 years is a long time, and we've had much better teams get beaten in UVA. Neither Joe Hamilton nor George Godsey ever won in Charlottesville, and one of those losses (1999) was with UVA's long snap holder starting at QB.

Then I read the comment from Gailey saying he didn't realize that Ryan was that good.

Not sure where the quote was...but I heard the interview live and that is not what was said. Gailey said that he saw him on tape 2 years ago and liked him...saw him last year and thought he was a great QB that was doing amazing things...he then said this years tape he looked impressive and made the plays great QB's have to make. He then said "you never truly can appreciate how good someone is until you see them play in person...and we saw how good he is tonight."

He also went on to say that our team did not play physical enough. CG said he warned them all week that BC would play physical...and "obviously our guys did not believe how physical they could play."

My take....this is the first time our southern boys have seen this BC team. They must have been expecting another ND type team from up north...slow, etc. If that is the case...boy were they mistaken. The BC boys play smart and hard-nosed football and both sides of their line punched us in the mouth.

Did anyone notice how well they maintained their assignments? There was someone there to meet our tailback every time we tried to use a cutback lane...it was never open a single time all night.

Sounds like your typical "Misquote to Further an Agenda" Buzzoffer instance, from over here.

beej,

I do believe we can win I just do no think it will be easy at all. There is just something about that darn place that doesn't go our way or hasn't in recent memory. Maybe this is the year we put all that aside and go up there and get a W.

I do NOT care how we get a W, how ugly or how pretty, a W is a W in my book!

What I am saying is I KNOW what I read. My hope is that such a statement would not be stated. I am in process of trying to find so I can set link to the quote.

GT @ UVA since winning 41-38 in 1990

2005: UVA (5-3) 27 -- GT (6-2) 17
2003: UVA (5-5) 29 -- GT (6-4) 17
2001: UVA (3-6) 39 -- GT (6-2) 38
1999: UVA (4-4) 45 -- GT (6-1) 38
1997: UVA (5-3) 35 -- GT (4-3) 31
1995: UVA (2-1) 41 -- GT (1-1) 14
1992: UVA (2-0) 55 -- GT (1-0) 24

The 17 year/7 game losing streak at Charlottesville is reason enough for concern --but the number of points given up is disturbing --almost 39 points a game over this seven-game stretch. True our defense is much better now than then --nonetheless, these are the numbers.

1999: UVA (4-4) 45 -- GT (6-1) 38

UVA won this one by calling two hook-and-ladder plays back to back.

That should tell you something about the series.

I agree with all points other than #2 and #4 (particularly #1, which was spot-on):

On #2 -- remember TB is only starting his 4th game. Having watched the BC game three times now, I didn't see many mistakes on his part that were due to nervousness/bad technique. There were a few, no doubt, but it didn't seem to be overly problematic. He played a smart game, without a big mistake, and while I'd like to see him really light it up ala WV last year, I'm happy with his perfomance thusfar.

On #4 -- I'm not sure that you can blame Chan for our lines being outplayed. The game I saw (with admiteddly less-experienced eyes than your own) our team was simply out-muscled -- they were bigger and stronger, and I'm not sure how coaching would have made a difference in this. It just appeared that we were outplayed. You might blame the coach for not having more and better talent on the field, but not pre-game preparation. Also, the way I read Chan's comments was that Ryan looked even better in person than he did on on film. Having seen a few BC games this year and last, his performance against us was above average for him.

Respectfully submitted...Mike

Tampa, Taylor has to learn when to take a risk and when not to...and that comes with experience. When we have to have a first down, it does no good to throw a two yard pass in flat for instance. He also needs to make a decision and throw the ball. He double clutched on numerous throws resulting in the ball getting there late. I"m not blaming him for anything, but he has plenty of room to improve.

I agree 100% NC.

Like you, I'm just saying he needs some experience (i.e. time) to understand when "to take a risk and when not to". I think MoF2 understood that when he said "In no way am I ready to tank him, but I think we should give some reps to the back-up if it does not improve." I guess I'm just a little farther away from making that assessment than I read in MoF2's words -- but what do I know?...Mike

p.s. if given the choice between a throw in the flats and the possibility of your open WR/TE/RB running for the first down, and throwing one up into double coverage, I'd prefer the former -- particularly early in the game. Furthermore, later in the game, he did take more chances, as was appropriate given the situation. However, your point concerning the double pumping leading to "just barely too late" throws is a very valid (and insightful) one, and something I hope to see improvement in going forward.

Thank you for the reply Tampa.

My point on TB is to just relax and play the game. He seems to be playing tight. When he see the open receiver throw it now instead of waiting. Like I said I am NOT ready to throw him in the tank because I do believe he can get us where we need to be. I just want to see him go play and have fun.

On the coaching, it seemed to me we were flat coming out of the gate. I do not blame the game on CCG, but it is his job to motivate and get the SA's ready to play before they walk out of that tunnel. I am not foolish enough to believe that a coach can prepare young men to keep from getting out muscled, but HE can prepare them to come out with fire.

Once again thanks for the reply!

Mike,

My only point here is that if TB keeps double clutching or hanging on to the ball to long is to give him a series off to watch from the sidelines.

I do NOT think we need to go with the backup at this time. TB needs some more time to develop. A series or 2 may help him to get in the flow a little more by watching what the defense is doing on the sidelines.

But hey what do I know, I am just the average fan that loves GT football and wants a W everytime we step out to play.
