Not a lot of news here... but it was interesting that when asked about renovating the weight room, CPJ said that when he discussed this with DRad, they had considered removing a portion of the endzone bleachers, so that the weight room was glassed in and opened out onto a little terrace and the field.

Anyone else ever heard of this idea or have any thoughts on it?

First I have heard of it, but yes please. A nice looking glassed in area beats the hell out of empty seats.

I agree the empty seats are a problem, but typically if we're going to remove seats it would be ones far from the field. If we can't get students to occupy these seats, maybe we should convert the area to regular seating and see if some folks from the nose bleeds would prefer to move down there.

Before we go blaming the students, aren't the seats he's referring to in the lettermen and recruits seating area?

I think having a weight room that looks out into the stadium could actually be a really good recruiting tool too. I cant think of any other schools that have that, specifically, so it would stand out to kids interested in unique cool stuff like that.

I agree that removing seats for removing seats sake would be done in the nosebleeds, but if I get to have what we have in the south end zone or a cool new facility, I know what my choice is.

I can understand the visual behind it, but appears we continue to not learn the same lessons over and over.

You do not reduce capacity. The negative our recruits would get from our opponents would be equal to any positive from the improvements.

Schools serious about winning & investing focus on doing things to sell MORE tickets, not to do things to enable you to sell LESS tickets.

If there is anyone with half a brain left at GT, there are obviously better solutions than this reactionary, off the top of our heads solution.

I love TStan compared to mbob, but hell we could hire anyone to decrease the capacity of GF, or get us less cash per year than R, or continue our relationship with a non existent radio station.

All glass wall would look awesome. build a terrace on top. you still have the capacity to fill but instead of seeing empty seats, you can see a pavilion with people. maybe rope off a section on the field and let some fans stand there.

No, I don't think so. He's talking the south end zone bleachers, below the terrace.

Yeah. Those seats suck. The right hand corner is almost always empty and the rest of the students have enough room to stick their arms out and spin without hitting someone. Everyone wants to be on the other end by the band.

There's already a terrace there, above the south end zone bleachers, which is already filled with people...?

I guess they could do something interesting with the glass wall... make it a video monitor or the like. I'll bet there's some kind of rule against field-level video boards distracting the other team during live play.

Surely some people in upper north would prefer field-level south?

That would be a great place for a bunch of standing tables and a bar. Sort of like our own Chop House, but at field level.

They do suck, but that section was rowdy when i was in school. It was fun because the visiting team warmed up right in front of you and could hear everything you said.
