Well, sort of...

As written, this sounds like a really bizarre rant or tangent to go off on but whatever.

When asked during his weekly news conference whether an upset win at Virginia Tech helped ease some of the disappointments of the past two seasons, Johnson used the opportunity to staunchly defend his record with the Yellow Jackets.

"Truthfully, I've never worried about that stuff," Johnson said, turning the question into a referendum on his nine seasons at the Atlantic Coast Conference school. "If they think they can get somebody better, they ought to go get `em. That's certainly their right."

I mean, he's right, we'd be hard-pressed to find someone who could do better with our situation than he can. But that's a pretty stupid thing to say publicly.

I don't think he is saying "Tech can't do better than me."

I don't think it was that bad to say. Telling it like it is. If there is a better coach, why not get him? Just like if CPJ had a better QB he'd put him in over JT or MJ and same with RB, WR etc...

Johnson has been saying that as long as he's been coaching. I even remember Homer Rice saying almost the exact same thing.

I'd rather have a coach confident enough to say that over a coach who hopes we don't fire him because he is afraid he can't find another job. I'll take swagger over scared any day.

He was saying he does not control the outcome of his job. He is not his own boss. If the new AD wants a new coach, he can go get another coach. Nothing here but people making nothing out of nothing.

This is all it sounded like to me too. Much ado about nothing.

I think he has been saying this since day one.

Johnson is a great coach. We've entered the up and down stage. But every QB we've had except Vad has played in a ACCCG.

I don't have a problem with him saying it, but this points to part of the problem:

"My job is to try to take the players that we have and make them be the best they can be -- make sure they're going to school, make sure they're graduating and staying out of trouble," Johnson said.

Yes, he has to coach up the players we have, but his job is also to get better players.
