The problem with this argument is getting mauled at the LOS was a recurring problem of the CPJ years. It was not during the CCG years.

I don’t disagree with that. Maybe GC took his first year’s salary and started a foundation for the community that he can use to funnel money to players and their families. That’s what I heard UGa was doing anyways.

But this was the point I was making. Our guys couldn’t line up and run a similar offense and defense and win because we were smaller and slower, even in our best recruiting years. That’s why we brought in PJ. His offense was an equalizer that could overcome our disadvantages. At least, I believe that was the support in hiring PJ.

GT isn’t going to be happy losing to Clemson and uga every year. Hopefully it’ll cause us to up our game to be more competitive. GC understands its all about the recruits and we will hopefully see our recruiting numbers get better and better.

The problem with this argument is that in 2008 & 2009 it was the result of CCG recruiting. CCG did a below average job recruiting OL & DL those last few years.

I thought we did pretty good getting what looked to be some good OL in 2007.

A reminder, if anyone needed one. LSU scored a TD in the first drive. After a few punts, Tech took the ball down to the LSU 7 and settled for 3 points. LSU then scored another TD in the second quarter to make it 14-3.

LSU was leading but Tech did not look any worse, just unprepared for the occasion.

And then came a disastrous sequence of events. LSU’s next 3 drives, all of which led to TDs, started at the Tech 21, 24 and 42, thanks to a stupid fake punt, a fumble and a 20 yard punt.

The game told us little about the strength and weaknesses of the Tech football Team and more about the fact that they weren’t mentally prepared for this game.

Further clues of mental illness is these are typically the same fonts who get upset if anyone criticizes the level or maturity of talent that CPJ left to his successor, which was clearly inadequate in numbers to field a competitive P5 football team.

LSU did the same thing to Miami in the Peach Bowl in 2005. Miami started a fight pregame. Miami jumped out to a 3-0 lead. LSU scored 40 straight to win 40-3.

I guess it depends on how you define competitive. I think everyone can agree TM was an aback playing QB. GT went 9-7 in CPJ last two years in the ACC. That is 9-5 excluding Clemson. We didn’t get lucky like Syracuse. GT finished 3rd and 2nd in the coastal post JT5 who was a great QB.

CGC didn’t have the players to be competitive running any non option scheme. That is a fact.

It was deficient compared to many teams, but it was a good roster for GT standards. I haven’t read every post, but that’s the main thing I’ve seen.

Having really good players at every position helps win. I don’t think anyone would argue that. Can we do that? If yes, then let’s do it. If no, then how are we going to make up for the discrepancy?

2006 we signed Zach Krish on OL, on DL we took Ben Anderson and Robert Hall
2007 was better with Claytor, Clyde Yandell, and Gilbert on OL; with Derrick Morgan (top recruit in that class), Walls, Peters

Before someone else says it, 2007 was probably the best DL recruiting we've seen since.
 
Here’s what I care about:
How Georgia Tech does on Saturdays (and certain Thursdays. And now Fridays, thanks to Swofford).
Period.
While it’s intriguing if they play on Sundays, whether they do or don’t really doesn’t have much bearing on Saturdays
FSU and Miami have been loaded with potential pros. Where’s that gotten them?
You have 224 draft picks a year. That’s 896 over four years. With 130 FBS teams. Plus FCS and D2 (some great pros played D2 - Shannon Sharpe, for one)
You can win with guys who aren’t going to the pros. They still need to be good - but you can lose your ass with “NFL talent.” Right, FSU?
Hell, Butch Jones recruited pretty well at UT. Look at his classes.
And they .... sucked.

Unfortunately, those early bowl games showed what a dominant DL can do to an under center team. Once Clem and uga upped their recruiting game, we were looking at two games a season just not being competitive. We weren’t going to recruit linemen big enough to compete with those teams. Because if they OL were big and fast, they weren’t going to play option ball. iiwii

they showed the fans what a dominant DL can do to an under-center team but PJ never seemed to adjust for this. Frankly, the game passed him by and he refused to keep up either thru recruiting or a modified offensive package to try and counter. Running 30 QB keepers/game the last few years wasn't an adjustment but a concession.
