CPJ - Master of Halftime Adjustments

It's one thing if a defense is stopping us because of a particular scheme they're running, or if they're selling out to stop one facet of our offense.

It's another thing altogether when we are failing to execute basic plays the way we've practiced for months on end. I don't think any kind of adjustments would have helped us the last couple games, other than restoring Shaq Mason, Synjyn Days and DeAndre Smelter's eligibility.

Roof's adjustments sure have looked good in meaningful games the past three quarters of season. The D freaking stoned Duke the 2nd half, and didn't do half bad against ND.

I remember watching a former football player talk about halftime adjustments and he put it plainly: "why do people always talk about halftime adjustments? I mean, you're given 20 minutes to change what you have learned all week?! That's not possible" I am paraphrasing what he said...

I wished I could remember who said that, because it is incredibly true. All you can really do is try to correct simple mistakes, but actually trying to plan a new strategy is completely out of the question.

So far this season, just about every offensive stat we have drops after halftime. Them's just stats, though, and I'm sure a lot of it is in the garbage time against our two cupcakes.

This reminds me of something I was once told by a teacher in my middle school years. I was doing very poorly in a class, and my mom suggested that I ask the teacher if there was anything I could do for extra credit to improve my grade.

The teacher responded by stating that since I couldn't do the normal work assigned, how could I possibly expect to do additional work on top of that.

Burn.

Except the whole episode was in middle english.

Was it someone who played for a coach who wasn't known for making halftime adjustments?

We've seen CPJ and other coaches make halftime adjustments before. I call bs on nobody being able to make halftime adjustments.

I played in college and we always made adjustments. Not just at halftime but we made adjustment during the game. You don't throw out everything you learned during the week. The players are making "adjustments"!!

I think he may have been referring to game plan adjustments, such as running the diamond in the second half, but not minor improvements to attacking blocks or making technique improvements to combat a more agile opponent, etc.

I'll look up who said that and in what context he said it. It may take a while, though!
