CPJ sounded like a beaten man in the post-game interview

I’ve never heard him sound so discouraged. I actually like him but no doubt his time has passed.

He has been given more time than he would have gotten anywhere in America.

I am sorry our facilities are not like bama. They should be. But there are teams out there that know how to fundamentally play the game that have worse facilities than we did and do have now.

His IIWII has caught up with him. He has made a lot of money here, which is great.

He could, except for prideful ego, have been so much better than what he is.

He can’t relate to these kids and the ones he’s getting to come here he sells on the 40-year plan which means they are here to go to school but not be great at football. It’s an activity for them. It’s not their problem we put way too much stock into this game.

He has no connection with these kids coming up. When he started here they were in kindergarten. They’ve heard their whole lives how it doesn’t work and won’t work and it’ll break you and won’t get you ready for the NFL.

The era is over. He got here about 10 years too late. We could’ve been a powerhouse under him before the age of Instagram, Facebook, and what not. It’s sad and I love him but we will not be very good for a long time under him now. We will very likely never be very good and will end up similar to UVA.

There have to be massive systemic changes for us to compete with 4 Nationally Relevant and NFL producing programs within a 3 hour drive of our program. College football is dead for the mid-level programs. There is too much money in recruiting and arms races for us to compete. We don’t have the alumni base to generate the income.

But all our alums are so much richer and 90 to 95% of the people graduating from those other schools don’t even have jobs because they did not go to GT.

I agree that CPJ sounds frustrated and angry and determined to do something to fix it. I definitely don't think CPJ has gotten complacent or accepts losing.

The question is, though, is he able to fix it? Does he actually know what to do?

This presser sounded exactly like a bunch of other pressers when we were wretched in 2015 and when we were making the same ridiculous mistakes in 2017.

EDIT: I also watched the players' post game presser. I hate watching those kids try to give press conferences after making so many mistakes. They're not getting paid $3 mil/yr, for Pete's sake. They screw up, everyone's angry, and then they have to listen to a bunch of lame questions and try to answer them politely and honestly. It's tough on them and it results in some insipid journalism, IMHO.

More of the same. His fixes are always to get more involved in whatever part of the program is ailing. “Coach ‘em up.”

CPJ had something like 1 losing season before GT. Now he has several. The last few have come in a group. You can survive consecutive 7 win seasons with an occasional spike for 9 or 10. 2015 was forgivable because the team had a lot of injuries and it was bookended with an Orange Bowl and a 9 win season. 2017 and 2018 the wheels have come off. It’s not one position or player. The team is playing sloppy. It’s going to be hard for him to survive this year - although he might.

I know this is a joke, but I don’t say that don’t believe and don’t agree with it at all. I think it is a perception of our fan base though. I would also say that our fan base is much less likely to heavily invest hard earned cash in a college athletics program just because many are driven by utility and ROI.

I do know that GT alums struggle with approachability and an overeagerness to correct mistakes. This makes few friends in the neighborhood. I would wager some of the largest contributors maybe even a majority to the powerhouse schools are not even alumni. We don’t really have that. No one likes us who didn’t go there and even many that went there don’t like GT

+1. He doesn't sound like a defeated man. He sounds determined to fix the problem. Not simple to do, but he gave honest answers. He also acknowledged that they've got better players which means we have no margin for error. This season so far is poor fundamentals. We'll see if anything changes.

Kinda feels like his discussion of CAG. I know CPJ knows a lot about football, but it doesn't seem like it has translated the last 2 years. More than anything, it seems like issues of fundamentals which tells me it's a position coach issue - sewak has been super hit or miss, i think ron west might be a bust, candeto may be a bust... CPJ has gotta get the house in order.

His insistence to keep playing TM reminds me of his insistence to keep Vad Lee in the game. Maybe see more Tobias now :dunno:

If you say you’re not doing a good job coaching the players after almost every game. Are you a good coach?

Georgia Tech will kill you.

She’ll chew you up and spit you out.
I am just a worthless liar.
I am just an imbecile.
I will only complicate you.
Trust in me and fall as well.
I will find a center in you.
I will chew it up and leave,
I will work to elevate you
Just enough to bring you down.

That was a good presser after a tough loss, not short with the press, accurate analysis. He knows he has a lot of work to do.

Somewhere there's a statistic out there that 1 of 6 Tech grads are millionaires (or something like that). I am part of the 5 of 6, which is living comfortably and doing well but "I ain't got no $1M sitting around in my checking account." Thus, financial decisions must be weighed upon value and risk/reward since I dont have infinite resources. I love football and am just as crazy as an SEC fan with my fandom, but it just isn't worth it enough to me to donate an amount that would help my IRA or 401k. Until I have met my financial goals, I can't justify anything more than an insignificant amount (i.e. $50-$100) donation. Compare that to my Texas A&M wife where those fans very well-being centers around the success of their football team. They could be in my same financial situation yet donate a significant amount of money cuz whoop!!! thats what Aggies do! Now multiply that by a million+ crazed alumni and you get the nations most valuable football program financially. It's insane and GT just will never have the same situation.
