Johnson said he is not surprised that the loss to Virginia led to more talk about his quarterbacks.

"I've coached for 28, 29 years. The most popular guy on every team is the backup quarterback," Johnson said. "It just is. This is no different.

"Both of those guys are going to play for us. They're both good players. Right now, it's not a quarterback controversy in my mind."

Johnson said "it's pretty hard to put somebody in a game" when Nesbitt did not deserve to be removed from the game.

Added Johnson: "An old coach told me one time, 'If you listen to the fans, you'll be sitting with them before long."'

I love that last line:

"If you listen to the fans, you'll be sitting with them before long."

I believe this will be the first time I sig something posted - it deserves it.

That's odd, because the most popular player on good football teams such as Texas, Oklahoma, Penn State, and Alabama is not their second string quarterback. We fans aren't as stupid as you think. A lot of fans are former players/coaches. When the second string quarterback is the most popular player, that is a bad thing. Usually that is the sign of a football team that is no excelling.

you are retarded.:laugher:

Give me a break. Last season Texas fans wanted Colt McCoy benched.

You obviously didn't read what I posted. I said that the second string quarterback was not the most popular player. My brother in law is a huge Texas fan and I guarantee you that their backup was not the most popular player on their team.

OH and to make it clear. I want Nesbitt to be the starter. I am not arguing about that. I am just saying that CPJ has an ill formed argument.

I believe that what CPJ was saying was that everybody starts liking the second-string QB when the first-stringer has a bad day. It was humor.

Wow didn't expect this thread to go downhill so fast, if at all. He wasn't being entirely literal, he was making a point - The starting QB gets **** when the team loses.

Most fans are exactly as "stupid as you think" in regards to running a football team.

You can tell a stupid fan comment when reading WTTE of "why don't they just....<insert overly simplistic suggestion here>"

As CPJ pointed out, the fans never say, "Why don't they play the second string LT or C?"

P.S.
Texans fans were all ready to sit Schaub after a couple of bad performances even though his position at QB came from extended evaluation by experts of his performance in practice and at other teams. They had fresh memory of a couple of good performances by the backup in limited duty. Then, as a starter (because of injury, not listening to fans), the backup proved why he was "the backup" and Schaub returned to form.
No fans called to say they were hasty in declaring the QB a bust after two bad games.

Nesbitt fumbles and a lot of people cry to put Jaybo in.

Dwyer fumbles and you never hear put Lucas or Quincy in. Bebe drops a TD and do you hear "put Clyburn in?"...I dont think so.

CPJ has a point.

cajun... i believe most of the post agree with me.. cpj was right the most popular player is the backup qb. sorry we went over your head

Just to clarify, I'm not as stupid as you think, I'm probably much stupider.

About half of CPJ's statements are tongue in cheek, I knew this before he was hired as our coach. This statement regarding Jaybo, is no exception.
