My thoughts...

(a) CPJ continues to be pretty hands off on defense. In response to a question about defensive personnel, he defers, saying, "I hire guys to coach over there, and let 'em coach. And then we'll evaluate the results." I'm kind of surprised we haven't been able to hire a higher-profile DC, since whoever's over there is going to really be able to take charge and make a name for himself. Nobody's going to credit CPJ if the D plays great.

(b) CPJ says he doesn't intend to play likely-RS freshmen in the Alcorn game for the sake of playing them. Those 4 games (that RS freshmen can play before burning the RS) should be used carefully. You may need to use them in a later game, on special teams or the like.

(c) CPJ is sounding pretty comfortable with the offense this year. Obviously we're thin at QB, but at OL, AB and BB, we're really deep. (He says we're as deep as we've ever been at BB.) WR is a question, but we've got a lot of experience returning on offense. If we can stay healthy, he's optimistic.

Hard to believe the season is finally here!

There are some interesting comments about discipline from CPJ in the press conference.

I like that he's addressing end-of-half and end-of-game 2-minute and 1-minute scenarios on both sides of the ball. Hopefully that translates to some better finishes this year.
maybe they should just let the other team lay down and score so you get your wish and get a new coach.

Let's hope you're right. Pretty soul crushing "expecting" the other team to look like the '89 49ers on offense at the end of each half.
