I know I'm going to get ripped to shreds for what I'm about to post. It is really just in fun as I know it will never happen, but I believe strongly that this idea would be a huge success for GT football.

Also, not making a commentary about Gailey's current job security just having some fun.

I believe that when GT goes to hire its next football coach that Bill O'Brien would be the man for the job. Here are the reasons.

1. Intelligence - The guy is an Ivy League Graduate.
2. He is only 37 years old and he now has experience working with one of the best coaches in NFL history, Ralph Friedgen and George O'Leary.
3. Personality - He has a great personality and does well talking to the media and fans. There is no doubt he could sell this program.
4. Recruiting - He is without a doubt one of the best recruiters we have had a GT. He knows the state and did well here.
5. Experience at GT - He knows what it takes to be successful here and he would be prepared to do what is needed to win.

Many would say that he failed once he got his OC positions at GT and Duke, but he was put in some very difficult situations; following Fridge, working with Gailey in year one, and coaching at Duke.

Call me crazy, but I really like the guy and think he would do an amazing job at GT. Just having a little fun, but does anyone else see the wisdom in my vision?

I know you mean well, but its not happening. I can see what your getting at but it wont happen.

Oh, I know demjackets just throwing it out there for fun. So much about hiring a coach is political, you've got to be able to sell the hire. I know many GT fans soured on O'Brien but I believe he is probably just about a perfect fit for GT. Was just curious what others thought about him these days. I don't think he was ready when he took over as OC at GT. His career path got the best of him but he is a talented guy IMHO.

No I don't see it. O'Brien did well as Fridge's eye in the sky. He did okay with a Sr QB and experienced offense in his one year under O'Leary. He's pretty much been a waste ever since though and has never done anything to suggest he can handle being a HC. If we're going to do that, we should give the job to Tenuta. At least he earned a shot.

Bill has potential to be a good coach, I think he needs some more seasoning. Right now, he isnt right for GT, not to say it couldnt happen later on in the future but now is not the time.

ncjacket,

Did he ever really get a shot? He had the first year working under Gailey with Suggs as his QB. After the last 5 years that offense is looking pretty good. Then he gets another OC shot at Duke, enough said.

Look I know he hasn't earned the political capital to get the job, but when you look at the pieces of the puzzle I think he would be very successful here.

...

Am I reading this wrong, or are you calling Friedgen and O'Leary one of the best coaches in NFL history?

aeromeach,

one of the best coaches in NFL history(bill belichick), Ralph Friedgen and George O'Leary.

I'd rather see Ted Roof than Bill O'Brien (not saying he'd be my top choice by a long shot.)

Ted at least has HC experience and has managed improvement in a situation much more difficult than here. I thought he was too inexperienced to be a DC with GT, but he has gained experience in facing adversity if nothing else. He is a Tech man and also has some fire.

P.S.
Once again, he's not my top choice by a long shot but better than O'Brien.

McWhorter?
Maybe the players were right. I heard they were disappointed he didn't get the call after the bowl game in the shadow of O'Leary's resume scandal.

I'd like to nominate myself for head coach. After years of playing Madden, I can probably run an offense like no one else. Give me a chance with Nesbitt, and I can run a spread offense better than Urban Meyer's. Defensively, we might be screwed, cause I can't do crap with that. But maybe that's because I'm always playing with the Falcons' defense. Let's hope I can convince Tenuta to stay on board. Here's one thing that I can promise. If I'm hired, our cheerleader's will be replaced by girls from the Cheetah (no offense to our current cheerleaders). Thanks for your consideration.

George Godsey has a somehwat similar resume and would be much preferable IMO.

Oh for christ's sake, Bill O'Brian? If there's ever a guy who knew how to call 5 yard plays when you needed 6, it's Bill O'Brian. He's like Chan with less experience, worse credentials, and no success except as a WR coach for a squad that had enough raw talent to put two players into the NFL.

Maybe not Axe, but I just think you need to have more success on your resume to get a shot as a HC in a BCS conference.

Look at all the talent/seniority on the current NCSU -team then look at their stats. He has not made one bit of impact at NCSU

My son is an Ivy League graduate. I love my son but the IV League ain't what it used to be.
