Dabo Swinney will have some part of the Clemson football stadium field or traditions named after him when he retires. And he may be one of the winningest coaches in football history.

It’ll take years for this to happen because they’ll be nuclear butthurt when he leaves to go coach Alabama.

Woe unto anyone who goes to Alabama after Saban leaves. I don't think anyone else can run Saban's system like he does, and the fans will run whoever tries to transition to another system out on rail if they aren't in the championship game by the second season.

No way. He could leave for Alabama and there would be no hard feelings. The man has brought them an unprecedented run of success including three conference titles and a national championship. They're not going to start hating him just because he wants to coach at his alma mater after staying with Clemson for over a decade.

They won’t hate him, but there will be mega butthurt when they get another Terry Bowden.

If they lose Swinney; but make Venables HC at Clemson; there is potential for a less formidable Alabama and Clemson in the future.

You don't really know Clemson fans.

Why would anyone leave such a sweet gig? A place where he resurrected a team and took them to new heights? Where he's loved by one and all? And instead go somewhere where it'll be almost humanly impossible to match the expectations of your sainted forebear? That would be crazy.

Now I could see him being the guy that takes over after the guy that takes over after Saban (maybe that's what you meant). Give Clemson a chance to come down off their high, maybe a few 'mediocre' seasons... meanwhile Saban's successor isn't able to replicate the Mephistophilean bargain... and suddenly everybody's looking for a change.

Why would he leave? He doesn’t strike me as the “go do something for the challenge of it” type of guy. I think he’s fiercely loyal to Clemson.

Because Alabama is where he played and he’s expressed his fondness for it before. I’d like to think that regardless of where I was, I’d take the opportunity to coach Tech if offered.

You missed your window to follow Gailey. We’ll hate you now

I certainly could have had a better offense. It would have been called the “two step drop and throw high to Calvin Johnson” offense.

BRILLIANT!! Why didn’t anyone else think of that before??? Sign this man up!
