CRR gone

We had a non screen play against Pitt where we failed to block 3 DL in an obvious passing situation. And that was an improvement over UNC where we barely hand checked 4 DL in the same situation.

That was just dog öööö awful. I've never seen pass blocking that bad. Not only am I surprised we aren't firing both OL coaches, I can't believe that neither one was embarrassed enough to commit ritualized suicide at midfield by the 7th game.

Special Teams was definitely embarrassing. When you give up multiple long kick/punt returns, that's gotta be coaching. The punting was horrendous but we shouldn't have been punting that much anyway.

Special teams is heavily reflective of a team's depth.

On a team where we had scout team players starting, there is no way special teams could possibly have been decent, irrespective of what the coach did.

Just noticed this on ToS. Looks like we were about to hire a new OL coach:

### More evidence of how UM’s boost in coaching salaries is helping: New offensive line coach Stacy Searels was ready to join Georgia Tech when UM swooped in with a larger offer.

Link (but the above is all there is)

Stacy's a great OL coach but has coached with crm at ga. doesn't surprise me he went there but would have loved him here.

I'm not sure Sewak will ever get canned. If our OL's god-awful playing last year wasn't reason enough to fire him, then I think we just need to get used to the idea that he is going to be here as long as CPJ is. Which is really disheartening considering how much CPJ talks about how he hates losing, but then doesn't cut the obvious dead weight.

Edit: Although I must I admit, my one glimmer of hope is that he is canned the day after NSD. Even though that is unlikely.

maybe CPJ doesn't like being down both OL coaches at the same time. Sewak is actually used to recruit now, so that may also be an influence (and would suggest NSD if it happened). I imagine he brings some experience in regarding game adjustments, but he still can't seem to translate his knowledge to the field.

I'll take that endorsement and run with it. Good insight.

Now, let this be a lesson to the sad sacks that complain about the state of GT football at every turn. We just got outbid for a well respected, big time/factory level position coach because Tech couldn't or wouldn't pony up the money to get him here.

I blame CPJ

A point CPJ made in his press conference is most schools have two OL coaches. A TE coach usually coaches the tackles as well, and the OL coach coaches the G-C-G positions.

CPJ also said the main reason for the decision is ST's didn't improve much despite having a dedicated ST coach, who also did some work with OL.

He never sounded very high on having an ST coach to begin with. So why did he get one in the first place? DRad could have forced him to hire one, which would have been awful micro-management. I doubt that.

Another scenario is more disturbing. Sewak was a yes-man who said "why, of course I can coach the whole OL." I've seen many employees and contractors always say yes to unrealistic deadlines or goals, because it's easier at the time to say yes. Five positions is unrealistic for a position coach. On the entire squad including walk-ons, that may be over 20 players. 10 players on the two-deep.

CPJ hired a special teams coach because that's what StingTalk wanted. We had a poll about it. We're that influential.

Interesting insight on the 2 OL coaches bit. I didn't know that.

I'd have to look it up, but I'm pretty sure our ST improved under walkoski. I think we got more kick returns than we had in a long time under him. CRR just wasn't a great coach; not sure he's a reason to say no to anymore ST coaches. However, we do seem to need an OL coach more than a ST coach.

We need an OL coach who is not only a great coach but is also an outstanding recruiter.

I really don't care for coach saying recruiting stars don't matter and then say that superior talent can beat you no matter what. I know he said that after getting housed by Clempson.

That would be Todd Spencer. Maybe he has served his time in hell and can come back on board.

Go Jackets!
